Morning Guys,
This has probably been done to death. Apologies for that.

Hopefully someone can tell me I'm being paranoid.

My bike has developed a loud tick. I can hear it if I'm constant throttle; say motorways and that kind of thing.

It's not running hot or using oil and it rev's/run's perfectly.

Only thing I can think is that it got a service 1200 miles ago including belts and valves, the guy told me the exhaust valves were wildly out of spec and he's fixed them, wondering if this is a normal noise i'm hearing now the valves are correctly in spec.

Yes, I'd have to dig it out but I think 0.1 found 0.3 left.
Sound about right?

0.3 mm ? should be about 0.1 mm for openers and closer iirc NIL to 0.025-0.03 mm for the closers. No wonder its rattling!

Dont shoot me yet I need to check the service invoice. I might be miles out.

Found a message for him....it was only the closers that he adjusted.....i'll double check i'm no a decimal place out

Ok so l popped in and seen the guy.

He heard it run and had a wee look about; to all is fine, and mines is actually one of the quieter ones.

So As suspected I’m paranoid.

Maybe riding that annoyingly quiet VFR is making me hear phantom noises.

air cooled I assume? so runs quite a bit hotter - could just be the cylinder fins ticking as they expand or possibly the stainless exhaust particularly where there are any joints in the pipework

Agree dull but great for two up stuff. And not too bad for scratching surprisingly. Don’t get that special feeling tho…much the same problem with all Japanese machinery.

Don't you ride 2 up on the evo? I suppose not if you've got a VFR too... Mrs Uncle Bob doesn't mind the evo. I mean, she wouldn't want to ride hundreds of miles on it, but at least she'll come out with me on this one, which is saying something!

Nah the wife doesn't like the look of the seat and we'd normally be going on long trips anyway so best with the vfr; it has full tour luggage so that's a big bonus too.

Plus the pillion pegs are missing ;)

I loved my old VFR750. in 1992 it took me and the (now) mrs to Italy and back. 130 on the autobhan with full luggage in supreme comfort, so much so that mrs would actually fall asleep whilst I was riding!!! Gear driven cams, hydraulic valves, super reliable, lacking in character if character means you like breaking down regularly......

VFR800fi is the one to have now, 2 grand on ebay, must not buy another bike............:mand:
