Doing an Oil change on the M620 - Haynes says 42Nm for the sump plug, Seems a bit excessive. Any views?

:shocked:Anyone who torques a sump plug probably irons socks and underpants and puts CDs in strict alphabetical order:biggrin:

My Ducati workshop manual for 2001 M750 says the same.
But I agree with you, it does sound excessive.
42Nm is about 30ft.lb ... I'd be inclined to give it no more than 25ft.lb myself.
Even that sounds a bit on the high side.

My ducati workshop manual says the same. It’s WRONG.
Do you mean, more like 25nm?

This seems to be a common error across a range of Ducati manuals. The text of my 1100 Evo workshop manual also says 42Nm whereas, in the list of torque settings at the end of the manual, the figure is 20Nm, which is what I use. (It also recommends using Threeobond TB1215.)

Yeah, just been having another look. 20nm (18-22 range given).

Thanks for all the replies, as Vince says, i compared the figures to the EVO workshop manual which set the seed of doubt in the first place.

Stevedesmo - yes, my CDs are in alphabetical order and I also iron my Sunday newspaper..

Its pretty poor that they don't give the right torque figure. By quoting a figure most people would probably be inclined to set it and end up stripping the threads or cracking the case. I

I've never bothered so ignorance for me is bliss.
