I popped in here today with a battery question and realised it's been 4 years since I last logged in.
I've still got the same S2R which got treated to a new Arrow system and engine remap earlier this year. I've fallen in love it with it all over again. More horsepower and torque and an epic soundtrack. Currently running without the baffles in, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the local constabulary ask me to cut the noise!! :mand:

It's lovely to be back. I would post a picture, but can't seem to get the right file size

Welcome back.
I've never been stopped for no baffles on twin cylinder bike, just enjoy the music!!
To post pictures, a remote hosting site is necessary.
No doubt someone will be along soon to explain.:mand:

Welcome back, I don't have any baffles in at the moment and am hoping to keep it that way.

Thanks for the welcome back!

Now if only I could work out how to host and share pictures, my life would be complete :chuckle:

I think slob mentioned in another thread that forum photo posting was currently broken so you need to use a picture-hosting site. I use www.postimages.org/signup.

Once you've uploaded your picture, click on the 'share' icon and select the 'hotlink for forums' address, copy it and paste it into your post.

https://s19.postimg.cc/c4p7xymfn/wp_ss_20180118_0003.png (https://postimg.cc/image/iieb17rbj/)

If you preview the post before submitting it, the picture will appear in the preview if you've done it correctly.

I was TOLD by my MOT man two weeks ago that he deosen't think much of my chances in getting a pass next year - anyone have some old socks to spare?

This MOT guy say why it would fail next time when it has always previously passed? Has the emphasis on the test switched to quietening bikes down? A great deal of MOT changes have been instigated for cars, including fails for engine management lights. Interestingly on a another bike site, a fellow had his bike failed at Riders/ Bristol for a number plate that did not have all the legal blurb & issue numbers on the edge of the plate even though it was the correct size, so perhaps there is a general tightening of the testing procedures?

My mates SV failed on excessive noise too, must be a change in approach?

I had mine MOT'd before the Arrow system was fitted. So next year I'm just going to take it back to my mechanic with the baffles in a bag and let him sort it out for me!!

To be fair, it is VERY loud now. So much so that I managed to set off a car alarm in a local village just by riding past  There's no collector box on this, so it's pretty much straight through pipes :)

The rules for an MOT changed in June (I think) tightening things up a bit especially exhausts, lights (no hids allowed on bikes).

The rules for an MOT changed in June (I think) tightening things up a bit especially exhausts, lights (no hids allowed on bikes).

They have changed since 20th May 2018.

The new requirements are published on Dot Gov.

https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/class12/Section-8-Exhaust-noise.html

The requirement for exhausts is that: ‘The exhaust system and silencer should be in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the motorcycle isn't clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar motorcycle with a standard silencer in average condition.’

And for HID it says: ‘Some motorcycles may be fitted with high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps. Existing halogen headlamp units shouldn’t be converted to be used with HID bulbs. If such a conversion has been done, you must fail the headlamp.’, so a HID fitment is OK, whereas a HID bulb in a H4 type reflector an lense isn’t.

Thanks for clearing that up Darkness, I was told by a tester that HIDs can only be fitted to vehicles with self levelling suspension and as there are no bikes fitted with it I assumed that would make them illegal.
