Hi folks, I'd been looking for a nice S2r for a while, my last monster was the white 1100s
MX09EHK if anyone knows it ?

Anyway, this Black S2r popped up on ebay a few weeks ago and that was it, it had to be mine. Unbelievable the extras that were fitted prior to delivery, just under £3000 ! I have the receipts etc. All DP parts too

I'm currently registering it with the DVLA and waiting for the docs to come through.
Plan is it can go in my van when we're touring with our caravan :flag:

I don't understand some folk, all that to sit in an office or something ??

Yep, touring Scotland over 2 weeks this summer with my van and caravan, incredibly the Monster can be contained in my Sprinter, now isn't that brilliant ?

My wife said "you planned that didn't you "?

When we're at a site for a few days she can chill out while I'm off cruising Tongue :mand:

Can you remove the end baffle things from the silencers ? They have Termignoni on them but are alloy, zoom in and you'll see. I haven't had the chance to fully do anything with it yet with work and a garage crammed full now !
Anyone want to buy a KTM Freeride 350 with 58miles on the clock and zero dirt abuse ?

I wouldn't bother trying to make the cans louder, get yourself a cat bypass pipe, frees up more noise than fitting endcans on their own and is completely legal, come over and have a listen to mine if you want as I'm only fifteen odd miles away from you.

You probably went past me in West Kilbride then.

I’ve had my S2r since new in 2005, made a few subtle mods, I also cored a set of cans and put up an article on it at the time but I’ve since passed those on and reverted to stock with the bypass pipe, those are a bit rarer these days but you can still get them I think.
Your welcome to drop in and have a look, I was going to put it back on the road this month but I’ve just bought another bike so will be sorting that one first.

They were all runners and current MOTs !! But yeah I know what you mean especially the auld RDs

I've never seen an RD 400 Daytona Special and he has 3 Concours condition !
The TT500 had a £12000 bid and he said it wasn't for sale.

Congratulations on your purchase!

Having had the S2R 1000, I would say that those are the standard cans. From memory, some were supplied by Remus

https://s19.postimg.cc/l702mqdvn/Picsart2018-21-6--22-14-16.png (https://postimages.org/) and some by Termignoni.

The only DP Termis that I'm aware of are these in either racing or homologated versions:

https://s19.postimg.cc/ibmzg7x4j/C_Data_Users_Def_Apps_App_Data_INTERNETEXPLORER_Te mp_Saved_Images.jpg (https://postimages.org/)

Have a look on the reverse side of the lower silencer for a part no. If it says 573.1078.6A then you've got the standard version and the internals are not removable.

Have you seen the paperwork for the recommissioning? If the tyres haven't been mentioned specifically, check the date code on the sidewalls. It will be four digits - the last two are the year and the first two the week number.

If they turn out to be the originals, (or more than five years old), I would change them as soon as possible as they will have hardened with age and may let go without warning.

Anyway, once you've checked/changed them ... enjoy!!

Bee did you buy this Bike in Essex I was talking to a guy the other week who told me he had an S2R with 14 miles on the clock and also described the collection pictured surely there can’t be two collections like this in the world, one of those Bennelis I have also seen put up on a site locally some seriously lovely bikes there.

The Z900s and the Moto Guzzi and the immaculate KH Kwaks stand out for me.

Best of luck with your Bike.

That is incredible very small world about ten days ago he told me he was selling the Monster and I recommended he advertise it on UKMOC to get the captive audience.

He owns a Mobility Scooter shop 2 minutes from my house in Rochford we bought one from him for my wife’s dad and I was saying we should stick a monster engine in one, hence how we got talking about bikes.

I think I am going to pay him another visit to get a look at all those lovely bikes.

You could have popped in for a cuppa if I had known considering the epic journey you made.

Clearing out a paperwork drawer the other day I came across some old bike brochures and catalogues including my very first (very well-thumbed!) Monster Ducati Performance catalogue that Steve Hillary gave me way back in 2001.

Anyway, in amongst all the usual Termis and billet stuff by DPM (remember them?), were a couple of pages of 'pressed aluminium accessories' and it looks like BeePee's bike has the nose fairing.

They won't be in production anymore but you might be able to pick one up s/hand or NOS from ebay. They come up every now and then, mostly in mainland europe. You could try Forza Moto.

I've not seen any on ebay for quite a while though.

I see the brochure is labelled as 'Ducati Performance', but the front mudguard and belly pan also look very similar to the RoadRacing products: also out of production, but NOS keeps appearing in Germany and the US of A.

This is your tail guard:

https://s19.postimg.cc/q6h7r2jyr/wp_ss_20180804_0002.png (https://postimg.cc/image/x9p36ope7/)

I had one briefly on my S2R 1000 but the fit left quite a lot to be desired so I swapped it for the carbon version of the standard guard.

Dave G
04-08-2018, 06:42 PM
And if you remove the tailpiece you'll find the securing bolts are retained in a cone of resin, you can then rasp that resin down a bit from the bolt shaft and the whole piece will be able to sit lower and flush with the frame as the original design was intended to sit. I did exactly this on mine years back and while few people will notice I think it looks so much better, more 'factory intended' and less like a bolt on extra.

BeePee
05-08-2018, 07:52 PM
I thought it was sitting flush just now, I'm a bit OCD with things and never noticed it NOT sitting correctly.

A wee update to the registration.
DVLA have confirmed that the bike has never been notified to them and that it will now be required to apply for FIRST registration.
All of the documentation are at DG and being completed by Kerry, any certificates of compliance will come from Ducati UK and it "should" be registered as a 68 plate for first registration.
How cool is that ??
I bet that gets a few questions in the right crowd ! "eh how come you've got an S2r as a brand new bike" ?

Might have more problems with the insurance companies, date of manufacture and registration being so different. Those bastards will use any excuse to load it up. :nash:

Dave G

This is the way my tailpiece sits directly in contact with the frame.
https://s26.postimg.cc/rx3roap7t/IMG_2457.jpg

Any gap is usually only due to too much bonding resin over the base of the bolts so taking that down is an easy if tiresome little job that looks way better when completed.

Why ?
All it asks is the reg and the model when doing it online ??
After all it is brand new.
For all they know it could've been in a private collection or still in the crate.
My 900 Supersport was bought in UAE in 1998 unregistered and brought over here with all the documentation stating 1991
It has a 1991 registration here
Maybe the Monster will end up 55 reg, either way it is still a new bike with only 14 miles

BeePee

A bit of an update......

After dealing with the incompetence of DVLA last year and their can't do attitude I gave up trying to register the Monster.

Fast forward to June 2019 and I still don't have any bike on the road this year yet, not even interested for some reason.

The last DVLA contact was to get a letter from DUK to confirm the age of the bike and HMRC for a NOVA certificate HMRC told me there was already a NOVA issued for that VIN and DVLA have it, DVLA said they don't !

Anyway, ready for a fight with DVLA again and armed with all the info needed now I sent everything away again.

Within 2 weeks I received a V5, finally ! No questions no delays just first registration.

Year related plate (54) and first registration as 1st July 2019....result.

Having spoken with insurance prior to this they informed that a year related plate would be better to identify the correct model.

First ride out this year and taking it easy, checking things over and getting the feel of the bike.

30 miles and just did not like it one bit !
Stopped at Ducati Glasgow and was looking at a Diavel, at the other end of the showroom is Triumph, I sat on the Bobber and the Speedmaster.

Ok back on the road and a ride along the motorway and then round the coast road to Largs which is a very scenic road, you're riding right on the coastline and it's a nice twisty section which is perfect for twins.

I think I like this bike, really easy to ride, quick enough but still running it in.

By the time we got home we had clocked up around 120 miles, I love it ! A few adjustments with the bars and levers, and a few upgrades required and it will do just nicely.
Just what I was looking for, feet flat at traffic lights and not on my tip toes like on my KTM, classic look, no modern electrickery as such and a nice riding position.

Glad you're finally on the road - your pictures are making me nostalgic for my old S2R.

LED front light so I get seen and gets rid of the mood lighting.

Mr Gazza makes an excellent adapter ring, which allows you to fit all manner of different headlamp units into the standard shell. Have a look here for more info.

Touring / comfort seat ? I had one on my 1100s and it was great.

I can definitely recommend the comfort saddle. I used one when I took the bike down to Naples and had no aches at all despite a couple of days of 400+ miles. To help you search, the part no. of mine was 969577AAA (subsequently replaced by 96787702B). (Good luck with your search!

By the way, I'm relieved to see you decided to replace those 15 year old tyres!

Ok, here goes, I know I'll regret this but I'm selling Daisy !!

She's done just over 1000 miles, just been serviced including new belts and relays (fuel pump relay failed)

I'm just not getting to use her, I've had my enjoyment and the challenge of getting her registered and road legal, time for someone else to enjoy her.

Is asking £6000 too much ?

Hi Geoff,

how's things with you, hope you're well.

I've not seen you in ages, still getting the miles in on the bikes or have you succumbed to being a car driver yet ?

What are you riding now ? Still got the Tricolore ?

Hi Brian,
Doing fine. Still got monster and tricor 1098s. Now got a car licence but still use my bikes a lot. My monster has just reached 151k miles with 60k miles on the 1098. Both bikes now have an alloy tank so no probs with ethanol
in the tank.
