Next on the 'to do' list is sorting out my exhausts as one of my FBF cans has developed a blow making it sound noticeably harsher than the other aside from the obvious leak.

So, I presume they are just packed with fibre wadding but is any better than another and where best to buy from please?

They've lasted twenty one years without being done before so another twenty one would be ideal thanks :mand:

I use S/S wool now as the fibre types seem to blow to bits quite quickly!

Ah yes I had seen that and did wonder about it- thank you.

Is there any difference in sound damping compared to the fibre stuff?

To be honest I have no idea what is inside mine as they are- probably not much after so long and no doubt they have got louder over the years (but my clutch is still louder at tickover) but no so I could tell.

Fibre is more effective at sound absorption initially but just disintegrates.
The S/S wool is slightly less effective but goes on for ages just the same.

With an absorption type silencer with a perforated tube down the middle, I think the ideal is to wrap the tube with S/S wool first to protect the fibre, and then surround the wool with a fibre wrap. It sounds like a faff and I've not tried it myself... Best to have a look at what's left in yours for a better idea?

Saw this whilst waiting for a bid to end and thought it may be of interest.

Termis have a steel meash/gauze sleeve over the perforated tube, then wrapped in fibre.

When I repack them with fibre, I wrap around the whole 'package' in aluminium (plumbers) tape because you can then shape the package for easy insertion into the tube without it catching/snagging and so pulling back inside that you may not be aware of, but also because it adds an extra layer of protection to the (carbon) can if/when the wadding does burn away (at the inlet end first).

Termignoni just use a couple of wraps of paper masking tape to hold it together...

Did mine with Acoustafil, worked really well.
