Hi Guys,

I recently took advantage of a new feature on the DVLA’s website, which means you can check any number plate to establish if the vehicle is still on the road (or not). https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

I sold my old Ducati Monster about 8 years ago and really regret it... I established through this handy service that it’s been off the road since 2011, which is clearly a waste and as a result would really like to locate it again.

The bike details are as follows:

Ducati M900
Red
Reg M356 HCN

I sold it to a chap called Andrew from Inverness-shire in 2009 / 2010, who may have subsequently sold it on. I have tried contacting him already, however I suspect he has changed number.

I would really appreciate any information on this as I am keen to get hold of the bike again, so please pass this on...

Many thanks in advance.

Will

It is also quite possible it was broken for parts after or before crash and no one updated DVLA.

Indeed, I just checked on a car that I wrote off and was scrapped 33 years ago, it still shows in the system although, to be fair they have got the no tax, no MOT part correct...

I simply refuse to accept this option and will continue to believe that the bike exists with a thin layer of dust on it in someones garage... Waiting for me to find it again!

Right?

Lol So I had a look at all my old Bikes

- Honda CBR 125 - On Road till 7th August 2017 now Sorn but changed from Black to Orange hehe so either accident or stolen and cloned

- Monster 750 - Off the Road since 5th of March 2010 and I sold it in 2008-ish

- Ducati 749 - Sold in 2010 and went off the road in 2010 but guy said he will export it

- Monster 900 from 1993 - Still with me

- Ducati 900ss - No plate to check but it was CAT D that I sold for parts (frame and engine went together) so doubt it is on road

Ducati 996 - No plate but I know it is still going as seen it last year

Monster 620 - Still going

Multistrada 1100 - No idea of plate

Hypermotard 821 - Sold and exported

999 and 1200R with me.

i regrat selling my personally hand made custom built harley hardtail bored and stroked from iron head sportster 1000 to 1277 cc with 11.7 commpression pistons and Lectron injectors it had girder forks at hit 138mph at bruntingthorpe it was 8 ft long but handled amazingly well,, sounding absolutely evil on full bore ,,never had it dyno tested but it was pure dynomite
yes it was sometimes mechanicly fragile and when i blew away big jap 4s at over 130mph it sometimes blew up but i did over 55k miles on it and on one mad day did 1026 miles ,, god my arse was sore ,, i owned it for 16 years from 21years old to 37,,

wish id never sold it , i can still rebuild that motor in my sleep ,, the prick i sold it to has butchered it and goes around custom shows telling people he built it from scratch ,,,,hmmm a few people have put him right about that over the years ,,

i also regret selling my norton commandos all 5 of them and my early honda VFR750s the one with the cams supposedly made of cheese .. it was a stunner and performed brilliantly ..

Yup, there are some I regret and some I didn't want to sell.

My Benelli 2T - I actually rang up the guy I sold it to but it had been broken for spares for various race bikes so no point looking...
P848URO, my Blue 750, my first Monster is still T 'n' T'd but they've never turned up on here
XBD117W, the hardtail Yamaha chop I built hasn't had an MoT since 2011, but it is sorned so someone hasn't forgotten about it (I'd would be interested in buying that one back!)

Sadly the only bike I regret selling is the one where the new owner went on and killed himself on it :(

My RGV250 VJ22. Couldn't give it away back then and its now probably worth double what I paid for it brand new in '91. They were a good fun bike but not that good! The build quality and finish was crap but now all the 2 stroke nostalgia idiots want one.

Yup had a VJ21 that I sold for peanuts a while back.

Got a TDR 125 that I'm building after my Monster for taking with us when we go away in our camper van but finding Belgarda Yamaha spares is tricky so its going to be a slow build.

Next RD125lc mk2 I spot I'm going to be sorely tempted ;)

Only bike I regret selling was an old Ducati Scrambler, in fact I didn't even sell it, I gave it away.

I'd love to have it back for the latest project...

I miss my S2R 800, all the little bits I did to it and the prices they are now!?

Ducati Monsters of that vintage S2/S4 etc are soon to be classics although I hate to say it and use the term 'classic', but they do seem to be holding good money these days and will most likely rise in the next few years. 916/748 prices are on the up and will top out soon, so it makes sense that other desirable models from that era will soon follow suit. The old shape monster is a cult bike after all.

I mean these are very clean, very low mileage bikes but even so:-

First RS I've seen for sale 5 figures, which is optomistic, but I think 8 or 9 is achievable for a nice Tricolore RS/

That black S4R is a peach but nearly 2 grand more than 2 or 3 years ago.

Tricolor always was around 10-11k. As to rest to expensive. I can go and buy s4r with 999 engine same as s4rs but no ohlins for about 7k. S4rs 8-9 that s4 should be 7k max but more like 6k

A big regret is giving away my old split screen VW camper - I'd just got a newer type 2 bay window model - I let someone have it as their Beetle needed a new engine!

Pretty much every bike I have ever owned but then I would need huge a garage and many of the sales funded the next bike so they had to go.

But like most two stroke owners the one I regret selling most was my RD500YPVS, bought at the tender age of twenty after a Renault 5 made a right turn without 'seeing me' and bent my XJ600 rather badly.

It was used daily for two years and you can only imagine how it was ridden leaving everything in a four pipe cloud of two stroke smoke- every ride to work was like a GP (in my head).

Sold for £2200 losing me £300 on my purchase price so not too bad (my mate sold his one with a blown Stan Stevens stage three motor for £500)- I almost bought it back a couple of years ago, completely unrestored and looking every bit as lovely as when I sold it (except he'd had the wheels painted black instead of their original white) but £10k would have meant something else would have to go so I declined and let memories be memories.

I did too, it was so reliable and not the complete animal many people said they were, another friend had an RG500 which really was.

It was my only transport and I went everywhere on it.

Real happy memories of those days, a few of us on RD's mostly 350's and the two 500's the RG500 plus a load of GPZ's, slab side GSX-R's, all carefree in jeans, trainers and paddock or leather jackets.

I bought a CZ 175 Trail bike, new, as my first bike and it was that bad I sold it a fortnight later for an absolutely stonking Suzuki T250 J Hustler in blue, I loved it and regret selling it to this day!

Others I regret,
My first Commando
Guzzi V11 Le Mans
My £75 Guzzi Le Mans Mk1
M900
Yamaha TDM 900 , just too tall for my legs!

There's got to be a few more, but I agree you have to move on, BUT, there are times when you do just sit and think about the ones you let go..... probably through rose coloured specs too!
