My name is Robert. Main reason for me joining here is that I need a little help. I am owner of Monster 696 which has been imported recently and I am trying to go through the registration process. First move is my single type approval which I would like to book very soon but need a UK headlamp to pass it. Here is my question, is any of you able to borrow me headlamp for couple days just for a test ? Obviously not free of charge

Check witha dealer, but aren't the headlamps the same? Though if they are different perhaps you might want to buy one instead of blinding oncoming traffic?

But I would guess that they are right hand dip like the one you already have.

I don't think I will ever go back to the standard Bosch lamp now, so I suppose mine could be for sale.
Those Bosch lamps are not that great though. The alternative might be to buy one of my adapter rings, which allows you to fit any 7" lamp unit in the Bosch rim. This gives you the choice of lots of readily available and far superior lamps including those LED ones.

I have a batch of kits just about ready for the posting, in Gold, Satin Black or bare Tricoya.
Just need to blow another coat on some of the satin black ones and sort the final price.

Hi Robert. Welcome aboard!

Where is this bike originally from? My understanding is that you only need a single type approval for non-EU models. If it is an EU version then you should get a European Certificate of Conformity (possibly Ducati UK or your local dealer can help there).

As far as the headlamp itself is concerned, the part number (52010172B) for the light unit is the same for both the UK and euro versions (and even US models).

If a specific country has a dedicated part, then the parts catalogue would list a separate number preceded by that country's initials. As there's no apparent UK specific headlight, this would suggest to me that there is no left or right 'kick' to the beam, only a straight dip.

Have you got a friendly local MOT tester who could check the beam for you to be sure?

NB although these extracts are from the 1100 Evo manual, the parts are the same for the 696 and 796.

Was thinking 695! Forgot the 696 was so different.

Luddite, good point, I did not think about that there might be just one number for headlamp which indeed indicates there should be no difference. Bike is originally from Poland and the reason why i mentioned single type approval test i just because Ducati does not want to issue CoC document for me (trying to get one since July last year). I have contacted UK, Poland and Italy...long story, but had enough now so decided to finish registration different way. I will try to find an MOT place where they will be able to check my lamp only and will let you all know what they say.

I think you should be ok with the headlamp. There is limited adjustment both vertically and horizontally via the two screws at the back of the unit. So, if there is any right hand bias, you should be able to adjust it out.

The lack of help you've been getting from Ducati is disappointing. I think the original CoC should have been delivered to the Polish dealer along with the bike and they're obliged by law to retain them for 10 years (assuming it wasn't given to the first owner with all the other usual documentation).

Hello again,
I guess it is not a perfect thread to continue story with my headlamp but we started here so I will describe how is that going. I decided to buy UK-headlamp on e-bay and compare both lamps if there is really no difference on both markets EU-UK, also wanted to fit that lamp for a test anyway just to be safe. Luddite, thanks for all info you have sent with the catalogue numbers and I would like to inform everyone that there are two different numbers for headlamp: Number on my original lamp is: 520 1 017 2B and on lamp which I bought on e-bay 520 1 017 1B. Obviously I fitted new headlamp for my today's MSVA test. When they were checking my headlight I have asked tester if he can see beam aiming more on one side and Ive been told that it is a straight dip which is acceptable by law so apparently I did not have to replace it. Why then there are different numbers?, I don't know...

Still need to go for retest as it failed for 3 little details but this should be all sorted next weekend :)

The numbers often change slightly from year to year, it doesn't automatically mean the parts are different (but it might). It could be how Ducati track suppliers or third party manufacturing costs.

As slob says, the part number sometimes changes for something as simple as a change of manufacturer.

Certainly, if you look at the Stein Dinse site, which is German, the current part no. is shown as 52010172B but this replaces two previous incarnations; 52010171A and 52010171B.

Lots of Ducati parts are interchangeable across the ranges but you'd never know that by looking at all the different part numbers!
