I've asked this question over on the Ducati Uk forum, under the 'Monster' model specific subsection and thought I should ask it here too as its more specific.

I've been looking for another bike to compliment my early 900ss and decided on a monster. My budget is £3500 tops so originally thought of a S4r or S2r 800. Most decent condition S2R 1000's and are therefore over budget. I hadn't considered a 1000ie (DS) model as they don't seem to come up too often. Are these considered a good model or not?

Thanks in advance

1000DS monsters are great just a bit rare!

I wouldn't mind a 1000ds motor myself. I find the S2R a bit tarty with it's single sider and high silencers, so I would prefer the M1000ie or better still the M1000Sie, but as you say these come up very rarely and are sought after by connoisseurs like me.

You get an awful lot of bang for your bucks with an M900ie though, and the M900Sie is a better bike with the same engine. You will notice a bit more power than your 900SS too and an instant throttle response.... Pretty good stable mates I reckon.

Blah blah

M1000 is one of the best Monsters there have been in my opinion- classic Monster styling with a big air cooled motor- a great combination and without all the rider aides of more modern bikes!!!

Possibly a shame they had to complicate it a tad more than necessary and fit the additional plug for emissions but that's the world we live in I guess.

So with their scarcity does that make them more expensive to buy compared to say a S2r or S4r of a similar vintage?

I own a M1000Sie and it ticks all my requirements in a bike, air cooled great looks in Red of course good handling direct smooth power, Termis open air box and clutch make it sound like a Ducati should.

And just knowing there are very rarely any for sale let's you know you own something a bit special.

My advice if you can find one buy it.
