After an age thinking about it i have taken the plunge and brought a new set of Brembo ORO front discs for my 796 Monster and am hoping to get them fitted next week. But Iamhaving problems finding the torque setting for the following bolts,

Disc bolts, (I have new ones and do they need red loctite?)
Front spindle nut (28mm?)
The little ones at the bottom of the fork?
Brake calliper fitting bolts? (loctite?)

If any one can guide me the correct way it will be much appreciated:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Yes, you should use loctite.
Dunno what colour it might be but use the normal, low strength stuff.
I've used blue in the past, and lately purple.
You may find it helpful to warm the old bolts to soften the old loctite before attempting to remove them.

Also, while you're at it, I would mark both old discs left/right and their exact location on the hub before removing them.
You never know when that info might be useful, but once its gone ........

Can't help with the bolt torques for your particular model except to say .. and this is very important...
The little ones at the bottom of the fork ..
Tighten those VERY gently and in stages, alternating from one to the other.
They only need a tiny torque and they need to be tightened evenly and gradually so that they clamp the wheel spindle evenly along the full length of the fork-leg.
Tightening one fully first will twist the casting slightly and has been known to crack the fork bottom casting.

From the 696 Service manual details will likely be the same.

Axle Clamp Bolts M8 x 1.25: 18 NM apply Grease B (Molybdenum disulfide)
Brake Caliper mounting bolts M10 x 1.25: 45 NM apply Grease B (initially 2NM to seat)
Brake disk screw M8 x 1.25: 24 NM apply Lock 2 (Loctite 243)
Front Axle nut M25 x 1.25: 63 NM Apply Grease B

I'll take my time with the whole job but will pay particular care with the clamp bolts.

Like Jeff, I always warm the hub/bolts very gently with a blowtorch, before removing the bolts, this softens the existing locktite and reduces the chance of damaging the low profile bolt heads.
I also clean the threads in the hub with a tap and the bolts with a wire brush, to clean out locktite residue before refitting. I only ever use blue (medium) locktite for disc bolts, only a little blob, you don't need to go nuts, just in case I ever want to remove them again sometime ;-)

New discs are now adorning my 796, the job ended up taking 11 hours from start to finish.

Most of the task was OK, the only problem encountered was the removal of the disc bolts.

They had been tightened by an ape who had access to a big tube of hyper strength loctite. It took me, my local work shop and a broken snap on bit five hours to get them out. They are made from a special type of plasticine that looks like a nice torx bolt.

Just waiting for the rain to stop so I can bed them in.
