Old seat ?

I want to buy an old seat -condition not important is it will be recovered, for my 2002 900ie. Anybody have one lying around that they want to exchange for beer vouchers?

Damn! A couple of years older and you could have had my old beat up Corbin one. Its for the MK1 Monster though so different shape.

Out of interest - isn't the problem that the tank design changed slightly so the seat doesn't fit?

As smiffy said, there are two types of latch. On the Ducati seat bases that's not a big problem as the latch pin or loop is held by just one screw and they are interchangeable and adjustable. But I don't know what the arrangement is on the Corbin... They probably use a Ducati latch, in which case you are in business.

The mating to the tank does differ, but if you are re-covering anyway, it might be possible to trim the base to fit the later tank. Basically the early ones have a small radius at the leading end and the later ones have a larger radius. The angles of the tank cut-out are a little different too, but since all the (Ducati) plastic seat bases start out as exactly the same moulding and are trimmed differently, I reckon you would be in with a chance of making it fit. I have no idea what the Corbin base is. GRP I would imagine? That would probably make it easier to add a bit on if necessary.
I think they are covered with leather too, if that makes any difference?

The Corbin base is some sort of weird fibre composite, not fibre glass or plastic and I don't know if if can be repaired as it is cracked. It may be possible to glass mat it. I don't know.

I have a spare seat from a 2000 M900ie which is usable. Will digit out and photograph it.

I also have a reasonable pair of standard pipes for same.

The spare seat I've found is for an early bike I think I bought as a spare for my 900, so want to hang on to that.

I may have another one squirrelled away in the roof, I'll try to have a look this week

OK so thanks to Chriswilly, I now have a spare seat! You are a star my friend.

The seat is a different model to mine and had two round molded plastic tubes which made it not fit... Thank heaven for angle grinders to remove them, and black silicone to reseal the the underside. Once this was done the seat clipped neatly into the existing latch. The fitment of the seat to the tank is slightly different as the wear of the paint attests, but its really marginal and if you didn't know, you wouldn't notice. OK I wouldn't notice -perhaps some aficionados would! LOL.

So Darren and Ped, thanks too you both for offering to search your lofts for seats, but I am now fully sorted.
