Guys,
Having some issues with my rear light, I've had some cracking appear on it.....I think due to tour luggage on the back. It's basically not useable anymore due to condensation issues.....or at least doesn't look very nice.

So I'm going to order a new light and I've seen pipe werkes (Competion werkes) do some nice smoked ones with integrated indicators. I'm not fussed about the indicators and probably wouldn't connect them up.

However I do like to smoked look, just wondering if a USA light has any differences that would cause MOT issues and even if the integrated indicators (on the slim chance I hook them up) are road legal over here.

Thanks again Guys.

I fitted a smoked unit from Desmoworld in Germany...

Working from the rear...

• Ducati Performance tail tidy (96768109B). More expensive than R&G or Evotech but a guaranteed good fit. It does come with a bracket for the original reflector but I prefer a cleaner look, hence the 20p stick-on jobbies.
• Coupled with Ducati Performance LED indicators (96629909B). These are "plug & play" and come with the necessary resistors attached. Strangely, these only flash at the correct rate when the engine is running; with the engine off they flash at double speed (something I didn't realise until phoning Moto Rapido for advice - embarrassing ).
• Carbon cap for the seat hump - just for looks. From Carbon4US in Spain (www.carbon4us.com).
• Smoked rear light lens. A straight swap for the OE red one. From Desmoworld in Germany (www.desmoworld.de). Goes better with the indicators, I think.
• Ducati Performance comfort saddle (96766909B). Slightly higher riding position and flatter profile, which stops you sliding into the tank. Much more comfortable than the OE seat over distance.

Looks very nice, very similar to the competition works one. Did you try the integrated indicators (assuming yours has it)?????

This is a straight replacement for the original - no integrated indicators on this one. Currently €60 from Desmoworld.

Yeah I seen the price and thought perfect.....then I'm thinking; hold on if I use the other one with integrated indicators, it'll work out cheaper in the long run because it removes the need for fancy rizoma one.

I'll see how this one looks when it appears and make up my mind with regards integrated indicators.

On the subject of indicators can anybody point me to somewhere that does nice indicators and supplies the correct resistors and so on.....Desmoworld is tricky as it doesn't specifically say what ohms resistor to use.....and it's in german.

If you go for these indicators (Blinker 6936), which look to be identical to the Ducati Performance version in my photo:

http://www.desmoworld.com/shop/ducati-monster/m696-m796-m1100/elektrik/blinker-6936.html

then you'd need these resistors:

http://www.desmoworld.com/shop/desmoworld-blinkerkabel-m696-m796-m1100-streetfighter-inkl-widerstand.html

Note that the blinkers in the picture on the website appear to have bare wire ends so you would have to either add your own connector or solder them to the resistors.

For convenience, bullet connectors are easier, especially as you can only make the connections after fitting the indicators since the resistors are too big to go through the mounting hole.

Soldering gives a better, permanent, connection but it might be awkward doing it on the bike.

If you want resistors with connectors, choose option #1, for bare wires, option #2.

For what it's worth, the DP indicators I have come with bullet connectors.

If you're going to fit bullet connectors, you'll also need these:

http://www.desmoworld.com/shop/stecker-f-r-blinker.html

So a full kit would be:

2 x Blinker 6936 = €66
2 x resistors = €39.80
1 x connectors = €2
Total = €107.80 (about £90)

If I'd seen these before I'd bought my DP ones, I think I'd have got them instead as they're about half the price!

Hope that helps.

Smoked lens shouldn't be a problem for MOT as the light shows red through it.
Integrated indicators can be an MOT issue if there's insufficient space beteen them.

Just to confirm what slob said, mine has passed three MOTs no problem and the Desmoworld unit is e-marked anyway.

Just make sure the rear lamp unit incorporates a red reflector which meets UK requirements, as this is usually part of the red lens on a 'normal' lamp. If not, you will need to fit a small separate red reflector.

There's no reflector on these units, nor on the original light.

Yes, you need a red reflector to pass the MOT but no Monster has ever had it integrated into the rear light; it's always been a separate item mounted on the mudguard or below the number plate. I think my AP50 was the last bike I had with a combined rear light/reflector!

Red reflector covered.

Was just in ducati glasgow and quizzed them about it, basically they are saying they fitted the smoked ones for customers without mot issues and they've seen the intergrated indicator ones but don't know if they are strictly legal.

On a side note they had very nice indicators for £25 less than ebay.

Hi Ron,

It was a cheap unit off of eBay, something like this:

And so the rear light saga continues.

Wondering if anyone else is having issues with their light.

So as the original post says, my light developed cracking. I have since replaced that with a fancy one and it has been fine.......until last weekend when I went on a tour of the highlands.

I've suspected strapping luggage to the back caused my first light to fail so to avoid that I carried my stuff in a rucksack and only strapped my lightweight sleeping bag down....all good I thought.

However when I got back on sunday night the lens part has almost completely came away from the body of the light and has a crack running from top to bottom. Seems that the strapping is causing it but probably not due to weight probably more to do with tightness.

I've currently contacted the company who sold me it looking for a replacement.

Is / has anyone had similar issues?
