What are the options with a the M900 1997, can you adjust the suspension

The centre coil is too soft , when I put down the power she squirms underneath me , the bike is unstable

Shock rebuild or an aftermarket one built to your weight and riding style.

Nitron all the way for me- I've had the one on my '97 900 for twelve years now and it still looks new (it did have a service and a spring change a couple of years ago though).

The difference is fantastic (it will probably show up the front forks failings though so be prepared) and their customer service is second to none- you actually to talk to the chap who is going to do the work.

Thanks , think I will get a Nitron :)

Do you just bolt it in and go , think its preset by Nitron

Yes pretty much.

Obviously you'll need to come up with a way of supporting the bike to relieve the tension on the linkages to remove the old one and fit the new.

It is also a good time to check over and grease all the pivot points and maybe replace the rose joints at the bottom of the hoop while you're at it.

That might be worth a punt. At least as good as, if not better than the Nitron

Think I will go Nitron , ohlins has 14500km on it and Remote reservoir is a pita to mount

Well it looks brand new, and has the mounting parts included, but I know what you mean.

Very expensive in that case. I have one that was fitted to my m900 and in very nice nick. The remote was mounted along side frame rail but will be mounted under the frame behind the shock where there are a pair of mounts that a bracket holds it. I am making a copy of that bracket from alloy sheet.

I have replaced the rose bushes on mine plus all the wheel bearings and sprocket holder ones too. Link bushes were ok.
Just trying to sort out front forks on a budget but ideally would like some ohlin or other inserts to make them adjustable in the future.

I think it is steep for the condition and I have my own company so can get the VAT off the Nitron, plus with New you know what you have

That's how the 900Sie has its res mounted, very neat. I think you'd be better off going for the Nitron vs a s/hand Ohlins from what you've said. And replace all the other bits too if funds allow.

An ha'porth o' tar and all that!

True enough. The Ohlins is a very expensive unit and considered by some to be the best. You could call KAIS 01942 896366 and get a quote on a service just so you know what it would actually cost in perfect cond.

They are 900 new , easy 2-300 euro for a rebuild , plus sometimes too much adjustment will torment you trying to find the right setting

Indeed, I recognise that pic as being mine from my build thread.

As for fitting, I initially had it on the RH side frame rail but didn't like it there so I fitted it behind the shock as per Albie's reference to M900S and it is much better.

Only downside is the aftermarket shock that I got has a longer hose between shock and remote adjuster so there is an excess of hose to lose. If/when I get the shock serviced/regassed/rebuilt I will get a shorter hose fitted.

Albie .. I'd be inclined to fit a couple of strips of thin rubber or somesuch, to keep the remote can from making metal to metal contact with the bracket.
Then I would drill a few (large) drainage holes in the base.
Otherwise you risk collecting water in the hollow of the bracket, with corrosive consequences.
You're probably already wise to that possibility, but worth a mention just in case.

I used rubber lined 'P' clips to hold it in place.

My reservoir is in the standard location for an Sie. exactly as Albie's is.
The original Ducati or Ohlins bracket is a bit more abbreviated than Albie's and is held directly to the metal with two giant jubilee clips... Somewhat crude looking , but I assume that this was the arrangement from new.

Oh that's just a mock up don't worry about the shabbiness. I have some 2-3 mm plate and BigOz has a roller machine. Also will make a strengthen web and he can alloy weld it neat. Yes some rubber to protect the anodising is what I want. I have all the mount brackets and straps.
