This topic has probably been done to death, so apologies if I am repeating it again...
Will a S2R plastic tank (year not known) fit a S4R (2004) ?

Hi, Russ. Welcome aboard!

I used to have an S2R in red and thought about changing to the S4R blue so investigated a tank swap some years ago. Unfortunately, while, externally, they have the same shape, internally, there are differences to accommodate the differing fuel pump arrangements.

It may be possible to get the S2R one to work on the S4R but, as it wasn't a straight swap, I think I spent my money on an exhaust system instead!

Here's the S4R tank:

And this is the S2R's:

The bracket that goes on the frame is slightly different, so you'd need one of those.
The big question is whether the the S4R has a larger airbox and the cutout under the S2R tank is big enough? The air filters have the same part number (2006 S2R800 & S4R).
As long as you got the gubbins (plate, filter & pump) with the S2R tank, that bit wouldn't be a problem. The filler caps are the same, so your key set will be fine.
The steel tanks are less prone to problems with ethanol in modern unleaded fuel.

You really want to fit a plastic tank to an S4R? There are a lot of problems with the plastic tanks expanding.

The fuel and electrical outlets will be in slightly different positions on the plastic tank as the pump is mounted on a plate on the bottom of the tank v's inside the tank on the steel tanks. I guess it could be made to work. I don't know if the fuel lines for the plastic tanks have clip in connectors like the 916 bikes so you may need those too if it does as on the steel tanks the pipes just push onto a spigot.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys. I have been offered a mint plastic tank (cheap) and the current S4R tank I have has the famous dink in it, so was just looking into the pros and cons of a straight swap.
Looks like I will be buying a tin of filler then........

Look into getting the tank dent pulled out. My friend on here Big Oz has done a 94 tank for me as best he could but will require some filler. He welds on studs and pulls the dents. Plenty of specialists do this and some without damaging paint and using glue depending on type and size of dent.

If you don't require the tank there are plenty on here who would really appreciate a new tank for their S2R or 620ie ect.

You could buy it and make a small profit passing it on to someone, or better still pass on the sellers info. It won't hang about long.

Try a PDR guy (paintless dent removal). They will push dent out from inside with special shaped pry bars. If paints not cracked/scuffed your good to go.
