Hello all, I had to sorn it about four years ago, but now, with a bit more available spare time and funds the Monster now back on the road.

Along with the normal service items, belts, brakes etc a few other things were needing attention.

The head bearings, although in good condition, greased and adjusted not long before being laid up, had got quite notchy. I can only put this down to long periods resting in the same place.

Wheels, a rather nice set of DP Marchesinis that were on it when I bought the bike, were starting to show signs of pitting under the finish. So not knowing of anyone local I’d trust with mag wheels and a quick Google search, they were boxed up and sent off to TPCS.

The standard suspension, although much improved with an MCT setup a while ago, was, I convinced myself, in need of upgraded components. With details of my requirements and budget a Nitron R2 shock and fork rebuild with MCTs own 20mm valve kit were recommended. And duly ordered.

One little item not totally sorted is, what I would consider to be, slow cranking speed.
Now while it never fails to start I get the feeling there is something not quite right in the starter circuit, but I’ll post some more details later on the relevant forum.

So, with a new MOT and just a few cosmetic things that can wait, here's looking forward to some good weather.

The slow cranking will most likely be the battery on its way out or the starter cables. Stock ones are no good really and there are much better replacement cable kits available, like he Exact start kits, none of which are cheap and you can probably get Halfords best efforts to fit.

Darren,I've got a new Motobatt on there. I bought a cable kit from the US maybe 5 or 6 years ago, before the Exact Fit ones were available here, not cheap as you say bit did improve things slightly. Solenoid and earths are good and a volt drop test shows no problem. I'm thinking starter internals but that was ok last time I looked, unless I've missed something here.
