Hello everyone, I'm restoring an m900 and was interested in doing something different with the engine (it's out ). Would it be possible to put a st2 944 in ?

ST2 engine is the same basic 'block', just got a 2mm bigger bore, water cooling and fuel injection, so you'd need to mount a radiator and modify the electrics for fuel injection.

Not too difficult to do, or you could mix 'n match engine parts; use the 944cc cylinders & pistons plus the ST2 cams in the 900 engine for a 944cc Monster without a radiator for a more classic Monster look.

Another member was thinking of fitting ST2 barrels on this thread. http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=54630

I don't know if he actually carried out the mod though.

Duc,

I can confirm with a bit of work that an ST2 engine will fit in a Monster 600/750/900 frame.

Here is my conversation so far:

Hope it helps.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the advice does the st2 need to fuel injection or could it be run with the carbs from the monster?

No reason you couldn't use carbs, probably best to fit FCRs if you're going to the trouble.

You'll need to either fit Monster style pickups for the ignition or use a different ignition setup if keeping the ST2 pickup - either way an Ignitech ignition module would be a good idea.

Thanks Dukedesmo,

You have given me some ideas. I'm looking for more power but dont want to lose reliability lol.

Not sure how much more power a standard ST2 makes? but boring the M900 to 944cc (+2mm) and fitting hi-comp pistons & FCRs will give a noticeable increase without losing much if any reliability and having to modify too many other things.

This is basically what I did (with the addition of a few other engine mods) and my bike has a really big punch from low down.
