Hi.

Just a Monster wanna-be at the moment!

Amongst other bikes I used to have, I had a 1000SS and I miss that Duke V-Twin noise and feeling and one of the first bikes I wanted was a Monster - so I think it's time.

Read a few posts on here which has helped me narrow it down to a M900, M1000, S2R or S4R - I found Jennoe's thread on here very interesting. I'd been looking at the two blue S4R's on ebay as well.

So if anyone wants to send some further advice / thoughts my way I'd appreciate it.

Hopefully the next thread I start will be a picture of my new bike :-)

All good choices to have on the shortlist and all great bikes. Prices for any of those seem to be holding steadily, especially the clean, original unmolested examples. The original M900 and 748/916's seem to be the ones held in esteem and favout with the classic crowd at the moment and prices on those seem to be going up to be more or less level with some of the later models. 996's and S4's too. So in that respect the later bikes represent better value for money, and I'm sure over time they will be regarded as classics too.

You've had a 1000SS and if so you'll know how good the DS motor is. The S2R is better in the 1000 version as it is higher spec with its DS motor and rarer than the 800 too.

The S4's are something different altogether, way more powerful like a 916/996 and just mad in only a way that only Aprillia's Tuono could better for out and out sheer craziness. Don't discount the S4 either that may not have the sexy styling of the SR bikes but is probably just as good performance wise, has the style of the older monster and the performance of the 916 and you can pick one a fair bit cheaper than the S4R.

The handlebars/riding position on the S4 are a bit weird but can be improved fairly easily with either fitting ST4/S4R bits or customised parts.

Thanks Darren I'll bear that in mind. I'm also looking at the M900 (http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=55059) on this forum - keep it in the family!

I hope you find what you are looking for. I always wanted a 916 and finally picked one up for a bit of a bargain.

If you are into modifying bikes then I would look at a non standard one, if you are into classics and want to keep it standard then pay the extra and find the best one you can get.

Thanks Yorkie, usually I would shy away from picking up a spanner, but as I get older I consider it more & more

Here's my M600 that turned into a M900 that is now being modified to have a 944 ST2 engine:

If you want a project, I think Saint is selling his M900/ST2 hybrid project. It was on ebay a few weeks ago with a low starting price.

Sorry for not saying so earlier, but I've been having too much fun

So I bought the bike off WAB78 (great guy).
