maybe another problem?

OK, Changed oil, rode for 4 days with too much in.

Have noticed a worm poking out between join running along the base of the engine casing. Is this the sealing ring (?). Has putting too much oil in forced this out? It is about an inch long, quite thin.

Is this a serious problem?

If it's grey rubber then it's just the flash from the crankcase sealant. The modern bikes no longer have a paper gasget.
