After a brief layoff of about 2 weeks my 600 has died, I've just refitted a fully charged new battery and when trying to start I get an awful metallic sound come from lower down the engine
I have uploaded a small video clip of the sound through YouTube
Any help appreciated

Sounds like the starter sprag clutch is shot./worn out. Not engaging, just spinning :spin:
I agree, it sounds like the sprag clutch. You could try putting the bike in gear and rocking the engine backwards a little bit. Then try it again. It might just grip enough to spin it upto and over compression, thereby allowing it to start. Not a fix, but might get it started..
Good luck,,, Tosh

Tried the utting in gear method, it gave a brief amount of life then died after a couple of minutes on tick over still pointing towards the starter clutch sprag????
Sounds like it is the sprag then, although that wouldn't cause the engine to cut out.. I've seen a post somewhere about fitting a spring from an oil seal to give the sprag a new lease of life. I'm sure someone will comment with a link to it.

Have heard this too but my only worry would be that it is quite a big job to change so I would want to be 100% certain that it's fixed because I wouldn't want to have to do it again a week later for the sake of saving a few quid...

Engine cut out.. I know it is a matter of elimination but start simple first, e.g.: battery changed recently? - have you kinked the fuel pipe when putting the tank back down? Common issue.
