Hi all,
Noticed these wear marks today:

Anybody know what that is? Or causes it?

The picture should go bigger if you click on it. Ignore the first pic that's just to show that it's looking down the oil filler hole.

The second picture shows wear marks going horizontally across the way.

I've cranked the engine and it's all the way around.

The marks on the clutch basket are 90˚ to the direction that it rotates so I'm not sure how they could be caused. The pushrod comes through the center of the assembly so unlikely to be anything to do with that unless the basket is loose. Or could it be from manufacturing ? I'd whip the case off & have a proper look. Downside of that is an oil change.

Don't see how they could appear whilst running? Maybe from manufacturing as suggested above?

If it runs OK with no nasty noises and doesn't get any worse then I'd leave it alone.

Cheers guys. Think I'm going to mark the inside with black pen and run it, then see if it's touched the black.

Thinking about taking the clutch cover off but I believe there is a gasket involved and not sure if it would survive.

Only thing I'm slightly suspicious of is that the oil level was close to the low line on sight glass. I'm confident it was close to top say 500 miles ago.

Last time I used it was last Friday and it ran like a champ.

Good plan .. with the black pen.
Clean it first so the ink sticks ... meths maybe, on a small paintbrush or cotton bud ?

On the oil level ...
And my experience is only from my M750.
And some will call me fussy, but ...
I always (well, often) check my oil level with the bike supported on jacks on either side.
I then put a small spirit level on the fuel filler cap and adjust the jacks until the bike is level, side to side.
The point being that its hard to get accurate or consistent oil level readings while trying to hold the bike level.
So you may not have used as much oil as you think.

Yeah probably right on the oil thing, recently I've checked it by holding the bike (possibly not level). But today I had it on the paddock stands so was definitely level.

I've resisted the temptation to take the clutch cover off as it's running like a goodun atm. It's marked with black ink and I'll have a look after a run see if it looks the same. Don't hold out much hope for the ink to survive tho. Lol.

Not sure that I'd take it on a run before checking the ink.
The hot oil might degrade it.
Just a few spins should show if anything is catching.

Guys,
Haven't had a chance to check the ink or go for a run however I found these google images of standard 1100evo clutches apparently in 'normal' condition.

They show exactly the the same wear marks as mine. So looks like I'm all good, fingers crossed.

And just out of curiosity does anyone know what the black screw is for at the bottom of the clutch casing.

And sorry for the clicky images instead of large ones. It's a pain to do properly on a phone.

The marks are from "fetteling " the casting . They run a grinder round the casting to remove any high spots and excess metal
