Hi all ,
Picked up my new 1200 R on Friday, after 7 years of Streetfighter 1098S life . Love the bike, it's so much more stable than the SF , feels like it's got more beef to the front end than the SF had , the steering always felt too light.
I often found myself 10 bobbing bends more often than not ! . Probably should have had the thing set up by a pro , but too busy with fish suppers , and more important things :booze:
Anyway, went up to Ullapool on Saturday and stayed the night , then headed home next day , while my 4 friends went right on up to Thurso, Durness etc .
The left hand mirror came loose on the way home , and was swinging about like a fairground ride, that really bored me . I'll post some pics here , with a word of warning to any current , or future owners ...........get a radiator guard fitted before you do anything !
Got home and found I had a pinhole in it , and was spraying coolant all over the front left disc :(
It was only about a 2mm gash on one of the tubes , so I've repaired it with some high temp putty , and will find out the price of a new one tomorrow.
I'll have a bash at some pics (been a while ) cheers ,
Stewart .

Hi and welcome

I picked up a 1200R on the 1st Sept, having owned an 821 the first thing I did was fit a rad guard as well as engine and oil cooler guards, its all so exposed it makes sense, I went Evotech.

The best way I can describe the bike handling is....tight. Its just there all the time feeding back to you. I haven't even touched the suspension settings yet, mind you that seat is a bit hard :)

Hello and welcome...

Nice pictures...

Is "ten bobbing" a trans-decimal version of thru'penny bitting??...:chuckle:

Thanks Mark,
I meant to get the dealer to fit one but forgot ! As for the seat , it's like a bag of Portland cement :( I'll probably get the DP one , as I had one on the SF for a few years and it was much better .
Is the Evotech held on with nylon ties ?
Cheers,
Stewart.

Hi Stewart,

No its all engineered to use existing bolts, just be careful when replacing bolts into the aluminium rad though, so easy to cross thread.

Welcome aboard Maddot: nice photo's.

Think they're both trans-decimal Mr G :chuckle:

I don't remember pre-decimal 10 bob pieces, but 50 shiney new pence have definitely got more corners than a note, albeit fewer than a thrupenny bit (Unless you mean the silver Joeys?).

:twak:

Sadly I do, pre decimilisation 10 bob was a note not a coin, 10 bob note, it was reddish in colour, of course it was replaced with the 50 pence piece, but yes thruppenny bits and silver sixpence, there was a chewing gum machine outside the Post office which took thruppenny bits, funny what you remember from your childhood.

You could call it 4 bobbing too.. The 20p coin has corners...

I can actually remember a shilling's worth of chips feeding our whole family. That's 5p.!

Ah okay thanks, but 25mm higher means I will struggle I think, I cannot flat foot both feet as it is.

Another Glasgow monster owner - welcome on board:)

We might have enough of us on here to organise a Scottish "fish n chip" run............

PS - is that a cheeky R8 in the garage, your brand loyalty is impressive!

Welcome too from Moray. That's the Avalanche Shelter just passed Strathcarron in the 5th pic. My job takes me through the right hand bore. With regards to your're mirror maybe the left/right mirror mounts have been fitted the wrong way round? The left hand mirror should have a left hand thread fitted which has the effect of making it tighter as you progress forward. It normally has a punch mark or paint dot to identify it..

Monsters seem to be surprisingly uncommon up here( place is swarming with multis and panigales:D ) so more on the road can only be a good thing.

Been a while since I've been up in Plockton or Strathcarron, perhaps if it stops raining for more than a day I'll get out a decent distance.

Sounds like a plan Alan :) Yeh I've had her 9 years now ! 19k miles with a quicksilver exhaust.......even louder than my old SF :)

The SF did have left hand thread on left mirror , but these are both R/H , so dunno ? It's tight now :)

Strathcarron self service station saved my bacon! Fuel light came on at the roundabout on the way to Gairloch , as I was heading for Aultbea , so I got fuel at Strathcarron....doubt I would have made Gairloch as it took nearly 16L :(

Furthest I've got this year has been Oban, over on the red ferry and straight into Argyllshire.

I know that my S2R wont get me from Stranraer back home on one tank of fuel, but at least it got me within half a mile.:D

Strange. Maybe there's someone out there with two left hander's? Result on the fuel though. It's almost military-style (I am btw) planning required when you head of to the west and north. Something to consider if you fancy doing the 500 sometime..

Doubt I'll be doing any more long jaunts this year Boris . Nobody has the Evotech guards in stock. I'll give you a heads up next time we head out pal :)

Well, got my rad guards fitted, tested out the new bike lift my GF bought me , and stuck on the comfort seat .
While I was at it , I sorted out something that was bugging me ....the nice wee badge hiding under the pillion cover . Ordered one , and bolted it through the seat pad :)https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/14446230_10155178985904989_8511286401588101944_n.j pg?oh=99333d101ef30dc61c5adb45834d4496&oe=58739A31
