I generally don't like shocks unexpected ones are even worse, unless of course the shock is beneficial like when Ducati say the item you need is £10 and you were expecting it to be £100

WELL ......In this case i was expecting something in the £100 / £200 region

This is the offending item, Part Number 552.1.163.1A

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r94/kato--/Sensor%2001_zpsuqig3x9h.jpg

It is an LVDT sensor or linear variable displacement transducer :confused:
Standard factory part for a 1098RS, what does it do, not a lot, it is essentially a neutral indicator switch used as the standard parts will not work on Race spec selector drum and the ECU needs to know when Neutral is selected, it also chucks a couple of other signals up to the dash

And the cost of said item.................£3,444.90 or €4,012.72 or $4,479.40 :shocked::shocked:

Blimey. Would be cheaper to buy a whole bike and break it.
