Hi all
Could anyone let me if there is a Optimate hook up under the seat of a Monster 821 2015
Haven't got the bike yet but just wanted to research where I could tap in for my satnav, Ive heard the battery is really difficult to get to.
Thanks :)

No, it's a specific Ducati only connection. You have to buy a Ducati only charger, unless you want to find a way to connect to the worst battery access in history, or splice into a cable somewhere.

Could I not just cut the Ducati connector off and hard wire the sat nav straight to it??
Ill never use the trickle charger as I have no electric in my garage :(

You'll never use a trickle charger, are you sure? Have you had a Ducati before? :)

If you do that the Ducati dealer will not be able to plug the diagnostic computer in as that socket doubles up for that too. My 821 came with an optimate connection to the battery installed by the dealer. I just plug into that for my satnav, it is permanent live so be careful not to leave the satnav on.

Hi Darren69, I know :) Ive always had Ducatis, had 5 now, but Ive never had any power in my garage, I even tried solar once but didnt really work. I just end up replacing the battery every couple of years :(

You really are just stuck with either following the bad manual instructions and removing the battery yourself and putting on an extra cable for charging, or getting a dealer to do it.
In the end, getting a Ducati Charger off Ebay is better

OP - I use solar for both my bikes, no issues whatsoever and I live in Scotland:biggrin:

I use this from Maplin (attached to the roof of my shed) they have survived 2 Scottish winters....

Halfords do a connecting lead from the battery that you can hard wire in.

Can't you run an extension lead from the house? Or is your garage not close enough?

Be careful where you wire in for the live for the satnav..
Had to have mine done twice because not all the circuits are fully 12v and enough for my Garmin 660. In the end, went right from the batteyy

Hi, I'm new on the forum and just bought the 821 and I've got the Oxford Optimate, so I bought a lead on line that plugs into the Ducati plug under the seat and then bought an Oxford lead to connect it to the Optimate lead. I got the Oxford lead from Sportsbikeshop.co.uk for £2.99, Oxford part EL103. The other lead came from http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/SAE-Accessories.html It's the Ducati to SAE adaptor, not cheap at £22.99. If you have a Optimate charger this will fit straight onto it.
