So, for the past 2 years I've been riding something other than a monster, reasons being I have been commuting alot and needed something a cheaper to run. However, circumstances have now changed and I intend to buy an 821 Dark next Spring when an imminent house project (new basement) is finished.

With my weekend trip to the Bike Shed's 2016 show at Tobacco Dock and seeing the amazing bikes there I'm really keen on creating something unique for my next Monster.

I've also read plenty of reports of people having issues with their matt black paint on the Dark and due to lack of lacquer, the paint is very susceptible to scratching, marking an decals peeling off. I know it might sound sacrilege to butcher a brand new bike, but if after a year or 2 use and the paint goes the same way as I think it might try something like this;

So with this in mind, I've had a play with Photoshop to see how it might look.

My inspiration comes from the 1100 Evo Diesel bike from a few years ago

The idea would be to black out more of the silver or bright parts and and have the bodywork repainted with a satin lacquer and use the old style Ducati logo. Also, have the seat recovered and and stitched as the Diesel model. Termignoni pipes or similar, with various other small additions to keep the bike as minimal as possible.

At the end of the day, this was really me just having a play in Photoshop after coming back from the bike show. Some of the creations and bikes were amazing and peeps should try and get to the shed for a drink and look around one evening.

Nothing wrong with butchering a brand new bike. In fact in many ways some people might say it is better than butchering an old bike. Butcher away with abandon :)

I like your first one, with the vertical cream stripe, yellow calipers are a must for the Diesel look

Like most people here, making the bike your own is somewhat a right of passage. Doing this to a newish bike though sounds sacrilege?

I guess the full colour scheme change would come after a while of ownership and the tweaking the bike with the usual exhaust, tail tidy and mirrors would come first.

I like all of them. As Dirty said. Its yours from new. Make it different. I didn't wait too long on my 1100s but tank panels make it easier. I always loved the Diesel

Just give it lots of thought which scheme.

Nice skills on the photoshop.

I think most would agree that its your bike and you don't owe anybody anything for it. So do whatever makes you happiest.

My two cents? I like the orange.

This is lovely, even though quite expensive? plenty of extras already fitted, and all the right ones? I'd buy this now if i could.....

Some advice for those who shiver at the thought of customising a new bike, do not Google 'desmosedici Roland sands' :)

They make some interesting machines and I like the overall shape, style and colors they went with but something has to be done with that headlight! The single offset projector just isn't doing it for me, ruins the rest of it when seen head on.

Monsters especially were designed to be customised, so doing it when the bike is (nearly) new is at the right time in the bike's life- it is when things get old people frown at them being chopped about.
Far too late for my 1965 250 Mach 1 racer- it ain't ever gonna win a Concours d'Elégance

Yeah funny you say that- a lot of people do chop the hoop actually, but it makes a good lifting handle for when there isn't enough room to push it round- the steering lock is ridiculous.
