Any details on the wheels? Are they lightweight "specials" (forged etc.), as I recall the standard wheels are Brembo.

Hi,

Have to admit I am not familiar with the M900Sie, in fact this is my first Ducati, but previous ownerused the exact same term as you, advising me they were "lightweight specials", but they are definitely Brembo as the name is cast in to the spokes.

How would I differentiate between standard and lightweight wheels

30.7166.00 BREMBO cast into spoke (front wheel)
30.7172.00 BREMBO cast into spoke (Rear wheel)

If you put the wheels up for sale on the DSC you'd probably get a sale.

DesmoDue can now use wets so people are always after a spare set of light weight wheels

excuse my ignorance, but what is DSC ?

At this stage I'm also not 100% sure if my "lightweights" are what is generally considered as "lightweight" ?

Previous owner advised the wheel were "Brembo lightweights", but others here have suggested they are standard....

...and I don't know how to tell the difference with tyres on ?

On the light weight wheels, the spokes are thinner at the rim end.

Or fatter. I can never remember!

Just checked my bike and they appear to be thinner at the rim end. And they are lightweight

Don't they have more pointy spokes? If that's the correct description. The radius of the spokes is steeper on the later 3 spokes iirc.

If they are the same as those, and I am pretty sure mine are the lighter weight ones, then I can make a post on the DD facebook group and direct people here if you want

...be lighter if you scraped all that turf out of the fairings ;-)

By having the thicker (heavier) section of spoke near the hub the gyroscopic effect of the wheel is reduced, allowing the bike turn quicker.
Also the inertia of the rim is reduced allowing quicker acceleration and deceleration.

I think the spoke change occured around 1998, both types of wheels are stock. The later wheels (5.5" rear rim) are similar in weight to the cast 5 spokes used on the S4.

That better?

I now use the exhaust as a flower pot

Thanks for the photos, but still cant identify.

May have to pop the tyre of the rear soon, so maybe weighing the rear would identofy if standard or lightweight.

Trouble is, would then need a definitive reference of Aluminium & Magnesium alloy 3-Spoke weights ?
