..should look away now. You may have seen some of the immaculate older Monsters about, still in showroom condition after a decade, low mileage (in the dry of course), lovingly cleaned and polished after every ride. You may even own one. If the very thought of a bike that has been ridden year round, in all weathers with barely an annual clean makes the bile rise in your throat, then please for your sake, read no more of this post.

For those of you with sterner constitutions, the time has come for me to replace my faithful 2001 model (02 plate) Monster 600 Dark with a 796. Before I put it on Ebay, biketrader etc. I thought I would see if anyone here would like to give me a sensible offer.

Details:

2001 model UK spec Monster 600 Dark (the last before the fuel injection 620) registered in 2002.
Was pre registered and had 10 miles on the clock when I bought it, so one careless owner.

Mileage: 64,639 at time of writing.

Has been serviced every year, starting with Ducati dealer, then after about 5 years, Rosso Corse. Is due a service and MOT in May.

Disclosure: Had a slide in 2005 when someone swerved in front of me, then swerved back, causing me to brake hard and lose the front end. No major damage, except to one exhaust, the bars and my shoulder. Everything (except the shoulder) fixed under insurance by Rosso Corse and got some Sil Moto exhausts out of it. (still have the original exhausts as well).

The Good: Good runner, I still use her every day.
New rear brake pads.
Heated grips.
New battery a month or so ago.
It's a Ducati Monster!

The Bad: Speedo works but has crack in screen. Tripmeter stopped working about 8 years ago.
Tacho works for the first couple of minutes each ride then stops. This coupled with some charging issues, leads me to believe the regulator/rectifier needs replacing.
Due a service and MOT.
Did have a Datatool system 3 alarm, but it got fried, so I have bypassed it.

The Ugly: She's done nearly 65,000 miles in all weathers. General wear and tear to be expected. The tank has some scrapes and scratches and for some reason has lost paint where the seat meets it. Metal parts are corroded.

I will attempt to upload some pictures, so you can all witness the horror.

Well that is the question, I would like over a thousand, but I don't know if that is realistic. So I guess as well as offers, I'd like people's opinions as well.

Can't seem to edit my post for some reason, but it's got a Scottoiler fitted as well, if that swings it

Plenty of patina there, doesn't that add value??

Serviced and regularly used this is probably a good punt for someone .. a bit of elbow grease and paint

Probably get the best price on e-bay

I think a number around the grand mark is probably about right. I've seen a lot worse.

As a matter of curiousity, where abouts (roughly!) is the bike?

Just an update.

Bike has had the two year belts service, has new tyres and an MOT (no advisories). Running beautifully.

Going to put it on Ebay / AutoTrader soon, so last chance to make me an offer.

Hi toaster, no I still have it. I've been busy travelling for work, so no time to put it Ebay.

That's an easier solution that swapping out the motor, just swap out the bike Toaster, put the old one on flea bay for a stupid number and someone is sure to buy it ;)

Hi Stuart,

I've just put the bike on Autotrader with pictures of the Sils so can't really take them off now. If it doesn't sell I might, what would you be willing to pay for them?
