Hi folks!

Put a deposit down on the 1200 R as soon as it was announced in September and it was delivered to me at the beginning of the month! Have come from a Triumph Street triple so it's quite a step up. Still running it in but the power is terrifying! :eyepopping:

New to forum life, so this is the best attempt at uploading pics from my phone!:

Love working on my bikes/cars so I'm sure I'll be looking here for diy tips!

Many people here from Aberdeen?

hello and welcome

for pics you need to click on the little yellow mountain icon above your reply and paste the link in there, it will then add the [ img ] ... [ / img ] tags for you (sorry, we're working on making it easier) http://img4.imagetitan.com/img4/wtZtDnkZ32wGVsY/13/13_image485.jpeg

there are a few current members around you, you're spread out a bit up there, lucky people!

EDIT: but it seems imagetitan doesn't like the referal after a while and has stopped displaying the linked image (for me at least)

Welcome to the forum Goose and your new bike. Certainly a step up in power.
You must be one of the first to get hold of the 1200R.
Hahaha, waiting till you're allowed to use all the revs. :)

Like that.......If you want to meet up for ride outs/social events log on to Ducati Up North........in saying that we maybe have enough Scottish UKMOC members to justify a wee gathering over the summer?

Count me in.

....a group of v-twins with open pipes would be fun, the boys I run with just now always say they struggle to sit behind me because of the noise.

Nope, not jealous..... :thumbsup::eyepopping::yoparty:

I had a call to say mine is in but I have to wait to take a test ride... I really want to feel a massive difference from the 1200s but my wallet doesn't. (Nor does my Wife)
Head says yes WTF!

You are going to have a blast on that for sure and this isn't meant to sound like I'm putting your new bike down in any way so please bare with me- I am a BIG Monster fan but.....

Is it just me or have Ducati lost their way a little with the new bikes?

Now I know we all want different things from our motorcycles and freedom of choice is what makes things interesting among motorcyclists but hands up who think Ducati made a balls up by not giving the Streetfighter a few curves to it's fuel tank and calling it a Monster?

In the same way as the 749/999 before it, perhaps just a little ahead of it's time would be an accurate turn of phrase?

It has a 'proper' trellis frame, nicely routed exhausts and even the plumbing is fairly well out of sight.

I know new bikes are bound by countless limits and restraints in order to comply with laws made by people who think they know best for our wellbeing and safety, so it's inevitable that they have to be cluttered by cooling pipes, ABS, traction control and catalytic converters along with the electronics that go with them thus preventing most owners from doing their own servicing etc. (I appreciate not everyone wants to also).

It's just funny how things have turned around to so many people buying older model bikes (generally not just early Monsters) for that very reason- to get back to a simpler form of motorcycling in fact even the marketing people are trying to sell it to you with ads like those for the Scrambler. I know we all know it but no matter where you do your miles those places no longer exist- you'll be fined for riding down those dusty private roads and lighting fires on the beach...the safety bods will convince you open face crash helmets with cause holes in the Ozone layer, riding in jeans will give you Cancer and the Police will want to lock you up for your small number plates and loud pipes.

I sometimes wonder, if I had to replace my Monster what I would get?

Thanks everyone! 350miles done and it's getting warmer, so I'll need to book in for a service soon. 150miles to my nearest dealer
It's already lifting a wheel in 'medium' power mode so it's gonna be a handful! :mand:

The Streetfighter is a Monster. No need for curves. Ducati made a marketing error in the name but no need to hold that against the Monster SF editions.

600mile running-in service done! :mand:
Ducati dealer says I can Rev as high as I want, but the manual says I'm 'limited' to 7k till 1500miles... Anyone know the real 'answer'?

I ragged one of the DRE Monsters (not S or R) round Italy last summer chasing their tour guide and didn't think about it until the first service light came on :-O The bloke from Ducati said don't worry about it.
I'd be a lot more conservative if it was my bike, especially if it was under warranty and a modern ECU might be noting my actions.
Running in should be a progressive increase, reaching higher revs as time goes on, not a series of steps.

Do as the manual says. Use the rev range, use the gears, ride it like normal just don't go nuts until 1500. Then replace the oil again too.
