In preparation for WDW2016 and since the bike is long overdue a proper restoration, I decided to strip down Nonnie's bike for a complete ground up rebuild, Pressure is on though as it's got to be ready to roll by the end of June. You can follow the rebuild here, as it saves me posting on several forums.

I would Rob but it's already stripped down to pretty much the last nut and bolt. Got to get a wiggle on though as there is a heap of stuff to do and lots of corroded parts to repair/replace or make good, all within the next 12 weeks.

Good maintaince practice. Occasional refit with a target date . I am sure you will do it with ease.

I wrote a ditty about Nonnie's bike some years ago. It got good reviews from the critics, I seem to remember.....................

I couldn't do a job like that in any time period let alone 12 weeks. Very impressive!

I wrote one about my 750 too.
Its gone down well on the few public performances that its had.
Maybe we should make an album of monster tunes ? :mand:

Maybe you should make a series a la James May's "The Assembler"?

Maybe you should make a series a la James May's "The Assembler"?

Well it's an inevitably that it will have to go back together at some point. There have been so many threads showing basket cases and the hours and hours of work that go into restoring them back to their original condition. I'm aiming to focus on the re-assembly and cutting out all the work in between, which has been done to a turn by others many times. In essence I have pressed the fast forward button and what's seen is basically a giant jigsaw puzzle of parts, cleaned/prepped/replaced/restored being bolted back together. I'm only 5 weeks in from initially tearing the bike apart, and the engine is almost complete, following a total rebuild, soda blasting, painting and re-assembly, so happy with the rate of progress, since as mentioned, this bike has to be road worthy by the end of June.

The engine should be going back into the newly painted frame within a week Everything else is ready to go. All I have got left to source are some new brake/clutch levers, a few seals, spherical bearings, filler cap and re-fit the fuel pump to the tank and I'm looking at another two weeks to complete it. The engine is going to be test run at Carl Harrison's for three minutes, then the oil and filter will get dumped for fresh stuff. This is to preclude any chance of any remains of the blasting media being left inside, although the cases were cleaned and flushed numerous times before the guts went back in. Best to be safe than sorry.

Inching closer to re-assembly now. Six weeks in and about 90% of the prep is done. More info on the FB link.

Well almost there. Lots of pictures and descriptions on the FB page but here are a few of the latter stages of the build. Now almost twelve weeks in from the start and about 99% complete. MOT next week and I'm done!!

Thanks one and all. I'm hopeful to have it all wrapped up in a week. FYI the "Cruscotto Forte" clocks are only available from Ducati Salzburg and when I last checked they only had one set left in silver, so if you are after a kit, then you best hurry. The company that produced them is no more sadly, so I got lucky with this set. If anyone wants me to post up pictures on here of the entire build then let me know, though most people are on FB and TBH, it's a lot easier for me to manage one platform than post on several forums.

Well the build is now complete! 88 days start to finish! From initially tearing the bike and engine down to every last nut and bolt, to this.

Was never completely sure it would be finished in time but now that it is, it's turned out so much better than I had originally envisaged and is genuinely better than new. Not a single steel fastener remains on the bike, save for those awkward to replace/replicate bolts, which were either changed for new ones or bright zinc plated. Lots of work went into this project and doubtless would never had been completed were it not for the infinite patience of my wife (Nonnie) and Carl Harrison Motorcycle Services in Harleston Norfolk (www.carlharrisonmotorcycles.co.uk), without whom things would have ground to a halt long ago.

Modifications included lots of paintwork, powder coating, epoxy primed and painted parts, new lights, tyres, pads, discs, filters, alarm, connectors, sound deadening, filler cap, indicators, instrument cluster, master cylinders, billet aluminium parts, chain, sprockets, seat upholstered, battery, key antenna, engine totally stripped, media blasted, painted - with news shells, bearings, seals, shims, gaskets, HEL brake lines, clutch and brake levers, grips, bar ends, exhaust clamps, system polished, all carbon re-lacquered...the list goes on. Anyhow I will let you be the judge as to the end result. Bike passed it's MOT on Friday and these images were taken last weekend just before it's inaugural ride. All ready for WDW2016 in three weeks time. Bring it on! If you want to see more detail on the project, please refer to the Facebook page, where you'll find many more photos and information OR click on any of these images to view the entire photo album
