Had an idea today and am pleased with the result so thought I'd share it.

One of the small things I wanted to sort on my 97 M900 ever since I brought it last year was that the horizontal Camshaft end cap had one corner missing from it where it had broken away around one of the bolt holes.

I've since replaced it with a good used one, but annoyingly the first replacement one I brought off ebay was no good when I went to use it as the old bearing had obviously seized up at some point and spun in the cap, making the hole too big.
I thought about boring it out and sleeving it, but in the end just brought another and put it down to experience.

Anyway, the one that had the spun bearing had been sat on my bench ever since as I couldn't bear to throw it away, and today it caught my eye and I saw it in a different way.

I don't mind admitting that I've always preferred a larger belt buckle, and have a few that I swap and change, but hadn't yet found one to go with my newly found Ducati 'thing'.

The camshaft cap just sort of winked at me today and an hour later it was holding my jeans up.
I took the large boss off the back in my milling machine and made up a hook and loop.
Just need to get it vapour blasted at work this week and give it a coat of lacquer.

I'm more than happy to convert them for people if an hour of my time is covered, and I'd also need to buy some more 3mm Stainless rod and Cable clamps.

Turning the hook up in the lathe from an M4 stainless screw and milling the back off is where the time goes.

As an aside, look at how bad the quality of the casting is where I've machined the boss off the back. It's full of holes and inclusions.

I bet these would sell like hot cakes online

If you could mould a copy of the cover in some other material, it would be even easier to re-produce

Thanks for the nice comments guys.

One of the things for me is that it's a genuine bit of Ducati engine.

Making a replica out of something else just wouldn't be the same, might as well just go on line and buy one of the many Ducati belt buckles available.
