Hello all,
I have a dent in the front primary on a termi stainless system. Is there anybody/anyway to get this taken out ? It is off the bike and can be posted. Thanks.

Dent puller. They tack a post to the affected area and use a slide hammer. Won't be perfect though

Ice... sounds mad but it worked for me:

You need a water tight seal at each end of the pipe, fill it with water and put it in the freezer. The expanding ice will push the dent out.

I used two big plastic caps and a small ratchet-strip to hold the caps in place - it took two or three goes to get a big dent out my termi system.

That's a really 'cool' idea.

I'm tempted to put a dent in a pipe just to try it out!

It would seem that it's mainly S4RS guys with the problem so what are they doing on the bike, off roading? kerb jumping? Maybe the pipe is that much lower on S4Rs?

Pulling into a car park at the top of a hill to look at the view.......pillion on and it just clipped the curb stone...... I've put her on a diet!! :-)

Just had to add my appreciation of the ice method too ...brilliant.

I have a seriously trashed 2-1 Sil-moto system which is due for a renovation and fitment over the winter.
I will be er, testing the ice (method).

If you do a lot of riding with pillion, it's handy to have a remote preload adjuster collar fitted on your shock and then you just turn it up or down to suit. You can buy them to fit the standard Ohlins shock I believe.

Front fork adjusters can be bought off ebay eg:-

I like the freezer trick for the pipe dent, got me thinking now. If it works on a stainless pipe, it must also work on a fuel tank. Just a case of removing the drawers from the freezer to get the tank in. Or if you know someone who works in a butchers shop they would have a cold room. I can just picture my missus with her hands on her hips saying " oh no you don't pal " as I walk towards the freezer with a monster tank full of water.

Tricky one.

Did some repair work on the underside of a tank, didn't want to ruin the paintjob so filled the tank with water to keep it cool.

Must have overheated it as it spread the tank. Wound some rope around the tank and twisted it to bring it back to shape. Now I use some ratchet straps to keep the tanks shape.

Cheers, might be something to consider in the future. Mine got dented about 4 years ago. The carpark cambered away from the entrance, which caught me out. I've been careful since :)

I would say in a tank it would more than likely expand it where you don't want, or split the seams.

Ingenious on the exhaust though but, I suppose more likely to work because the pipe is round and the dent is the part that has more give, plus a pipe is significantly stronger than a tank.

As long as it doesn't split lengthways down the seam (if there is one?) like the copper water pipe in my garage did when it froze...

Yeah, you are probably right about this, I am going to forget the tank thingy, but remember the trick if ever I get a dent in the pipe work. You would need to have a web cam in the freezer with the tank so you could keep an eye on the expansion, but at least that would be more interesting than watching the TV.

Don't think this will fit in my freezer

You could fill it with water and leave it out all winter though..

If it was left where the Sun gets on it, and where you could see it every time you went past it. You could keep check on it during the freeze/thaw cycle over the weeks...

Come to think of it you could lean it with the front end downwards and make sure that the water didn't fill the cruxiform....So's not to risk bursting it.

Luckily I have a spare then.

...and I think I know the very tank that was in your mind's eye.
Orange, perchance ?
But then again, that dent wasn't in a completely smooth area (slightly overlapped the edge of the knee cut-out) so maybe it wouldn't respond so well.

and as has been pointed out, a tank might respond badly anyway.
I like the tourniquet tweek though, and the ratchet straps too.
