Hello,

Just after some advice about the rectifier / regulator on my 1996 M600.

The previous owner has converted the rectifier to a 3 phase Shindengen SH673-12 item; the alternator is the original 2 yellow wire item.

This system work perfectly, but it really bugs me that the battery idiot light on the dash panel does not work, due to there being no take off from the new regulator to accommodate the battery light.

Being a motorsport engineer, the fact that this light does not work really annoys me, and plus I like the originality and simplicity of the monster dash, and therefore do not want to add in a voltmeter or the like etc.... So I would like to convert it back to the original spec single phase system, so I can accommodate the dash light once more.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the correct original spec replacement type?
I have found a rectifier for a M900 (please see link to eBay link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200844853165?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch% 2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D20084 4853165%26_rdc%3D1) I’m aware that the 900 has a higher alternator output, but I cannot find a similar item for a M600. The rectifier in the link has all the correct wiring connection on it, so is perfect in that instance. Can anyone help me on this front?

Secondly.....

There is a separate electrical issue on my bike, and I am unsure if this is anyway related to the changed wiring for the 3 phase rectifier (i.e. no reference feed from the fuse box).

When the ignition key is in the P Park position and I turn my headlamp switch to position one (side lights)(as you would at the side of a dark road), No sidelights come on, instead this turns all my ignition lights on the dash and you can start the bike! Without the key in it! But when you slide the headlamp switch to the second position (dipped beam setting) the ignition lights go off and the headlamp illuminates??? :dizzy:

Any help on the issues would be greatly appreciated.
I have been through all the electrics on the bike, and can’t see anything un to ward. But I may be missing something silly, or it may be to do with the 3 phase conversion. The only part that does stump me is the keyed ignition switch (not something we have in the motorsport industry - usually a few switches and buttons) Could it be an issue with that?

Many have done that reg/rec convertion with no ill effect, myself included several times always the battery light still works

I sounds like there is something drastically wrong in your loom

Nice indepth write up. But I'm still struggling to see how your battery light still works on the system you installed. There is no signal from the r/r going to the battery warning lamp. Only to the battery?

I don't think the later 3 wire reg/reg have a charge light. You need something like:-

I don't know how good quality wise they are but the the RR51 Electrex is widely regarded as a good quality replacement.

I think both of these have the charge light wire, but maybe worth checking.

Not sure on the other issue, not come across that before but its unlikely to be the reg/rec more likely whatever else the previous owner may have done or something shorting in the loom somewhere or the ignition switch/switchgear is faulty. A s/hand loom isn't that much to buy from a breaker.

Electrex World RR51 is the one I replaced mine with a few years ago, it definitely has a charge light as it works on mine :)

Your right my bad I was confusing single and 3p had to go and look at my bike

So to keep the benefits of the mosfet reg/rec on your 2 wire system and get your indicator light back you could use one of these ordered without the bezel and fit it into the original housing fixed for £12 can't be a bad deal
