i am musing on long term project for my 750ss,, cafe racer style imola seat , tank and fairing with 7'' monster headlight ,, reverse cone megas on the exhausts etc etc and color in classic ducati sunburst orange from 1974 ,, all options being considered as bike is now in bits ,,,

i think keep original tank but fit imola seat unit and half fairing , engine outer cases polished inner cases silver , rocker covers polished , barrels black .... frame black tank seat fairing mudguards and hugger sunburst orange ,, wheels silver or black ????

seperate the speedo tcaho and make alloy bracket and idiot lights but all smaller

reverse cone shorty peashooter megas ala Norton style I can get some that will fit Ducati pipes

any ideas welcome ????

This sort of thing?

I'm with you on your ideas, and thought of doing something simillar with an SS. Hence the long chat with the builder of this 750, and also a few more detailed photos, which I can send you if you wish.

Funnily enough I also wish to fit 19" Peashooters to my Monster, but it requires some bespoke link pipes with a subtle "S" shape....Let me know how you get on with that!

Yes something like that ...maybe ??? changing the tank would be too much hassle ,,and I would not change the rear suspensio as it handles so well,,, a imola style fairing would be good too...

have you seen the quality of the frame welds on a 1991 bike .. mine are all horrible ,, all look like messy tack welds i will take some photos ,

Commando peas shooters are too long but there are some nice 16'' long shorty ones that fit with no mods needed i some old Brit Bike shops for abot £70 a pair ,,

This stuff caught my eye a few years ago, designed for the SV650 I'm sure it can be adapted easily enough.

Yes yes ,, lots of good ideas ..

I need to keep cost and complexity down ,, but as its going to be a 6- 8 month bodgit ( project) i am thinking keep standard tank, and ss clipon bars ,, modify the speedo tacho to a more classic layout ,, means some kind of Ally bracket incorporating idiot lights ,,7'' headlmp which i have already ,,

need aftermarket single seat unit like the orange bike, some headlamp brackets ,, frame and wheels silver powder coat ,, hugger seat hump ,tank and mudguard sunburst orange ,,

engine covers and belt covers polished ,, rest of engine black ,,,, fork bottoms black , forks anodised silver .standard exhaust pipes with chrome shorty 16'' pea shooters,,, with brackest to where rear foot rest mounts are are . and maybe an imola style fairing with the 7'' headlamp ??

I have twin disc setup already front and rear ends were refurbed internally recently ,,I have the oil cooler fitted as well ,,,,

I reckon I can do the whole thing for about £1200 over next year ???

I had a '91 750SS and I don't remember the welding being bad, my Monster is a little spotty though.

I have my eyes on these 19" peashooters. http://www.classicbikeshop.co.uk/short-commando-peashooter-reverse-cone-silencers.html But they would most certainly need some link pipes and a better bracket....They adapt to 42mm though.

Show me the 16" ones that you say will go straight on please.

19" just happens to be the same length as the 750 cans I have on my Monster.

You can get link pipes made up that will accomodate almost any set up.
I bought two of the reverse cone shorty's a few years ago but have just had too much else to do to ever manage to fit them.

I just needed a suitable link to get them to sit properly but never got around to it.
( And, unusually, I actually like the OE cans shape)

thanks for all the input

im now musing with usung the standard seat and lock unit but without the side panels or undertray number plate ,, that means making and aluminium under tray to fit electronics fuse box and room for tools etc and a rear and side panel out of steel , ally or fibre glass to place tail light ,indicators and fill any visible unsightly voids which will be painted sunburst

my brain is working OT ..

also got to think of speedo tacho ,, coukd use originals but would have to make brackets and bezel or get some 60mm mini ones and make an ally mounting plate ??? but need to know ratio of the tacho???

idiot lights could be mounted in the middle .....
