View Full Version : HELP!! Long shot - S2R Clutch Lever Pin

Trying to change brake and clutch levers tonight and have had the common problem of the actuator pin on the clutch lever not being able to be removed from the lever. Tried everything, heat, molegrips etc but it wont budge and now ive snapped it. Managed to get the tiny grub screw out with no problems though!

Does anyone have a spare oem assembly knocking about? I will see if Ducati Leeds can help tomorrow but would like to avoid having to buy a whole new lever just for the pin.

Is there an uprated master cylinder that can be fitted which will kill two birds with one stone? I. E. Comes with the pin assembly.

Cheers

Will

Will, genuinely 'uprated' master cyl. usually equals Brembo radial, very nice and very veryexpensive. There may be other alternatives on eBay but I personally wouldn't gamble with hydraulics, especially the front brake..

I've got a pair of aftermarket levers that I'd be happy to rob of parts if it helps you out of a hole. Can you send pics of what you need (I've never had the original levers) and I'll dig out my levers.

Silver is best

Hi Simon,

It's this bit of the clutch lever, ignore the red circled bit. I need the pin and barrell (black parts):

It's loctited in something rotten from the factory and is now FUBAR'd. Only availble with the lever which is £90 from Ducati and delivery next week. There are options from the states but again pricey and delivery would take a while!

If you could help I will send beer money!!

Thanks

Will

I have some Brembo axial M/C's and ASV levers for sale.

Dunno what M/C's you have, the ASV might fit.

post a pic of them and ill let you know

Thanks, jonzi.

They are just standard S2R 1000 items but will take picture tonight to clarify.

I have the new levers already but depending whether I need to buy a whole new lever assembly it might be cheaper to buy yours if they fit!

PM price etc if you wish

Thanks but dont think they'll be any good to me, they dont appear to have the pin/barrel bit that I need and they look to be long levers, Im having to change mine to short ones because of mongy 3rd and 4th fingers.

ASV's are really nice levers, Jonzi's deal seems pretty good, not worth considering if he's got all the hardware?

I'll go and have a root around....

I might be wrong but I think most of the aftermarket levers I've seen don't come with the pins, you have to transfer them from the Brembo ones. Good luck getting spare parts from Brembo, I've been trying for months to get some handlebar clamp brackets for my master cylinders but it seems my only option is to buy new master cylinders, fekin crazy. Have you tried Stein Dinse?

I can see the pins you want with the levers, but I could not see any separately.

Yeah pretty sure it's going to be a whole new lever assembly which is daft but not uncommon it seems from searches on google.

I think some of the pricey levers come with the pin and barrel but the chinese ebay ones dont! Didn't think it would be an issue swapping them to be honest i did the same on my Yamaha Thundercat although that had a cable clutch.

Anyway think ive found some Oberon levers on eBay which look to have the pin and barrel so I might buy them and rob the bits I need and then sell them on.

I think Oberon sell directly on ebay so I'd be cheeky and ask if they can get you a price for just the pins

These'll fit directly, not sure if you can use the fittings.

I'm happy to post them up Will, I'll need your address again.

For Brembo spares you could try Gutsibits, they had a rear master cylinder kit for the Monster which I was assured would be an impossible thing to get hold of!!

They don't appear to have the barrel and pin which needs transferring from the original lever, plus theyre long ones.

These were used from a breaker so £40 which seemed OK, they are for an M900 but the pin and barrel looks the same.....

Thanks to all so far for the help! What a pain in the ar*e, immobilized bike due to a tiny little part - annoying

The pins are a bit different on those master cylinders. They are just like little bullets.

They are included, but by the sounds of it my ASV's won't fit your existing master cylinders.

Or buy up some cheap levers from ebay, Chinese copies and pull the pins out.

Do you need just one?

I might have one on a lever some where but I wont have chance to look until the weekend.

No i dont think they will, jonzi. Thanks for your help though. The levers on eBay do not come with the pin and barrel. Only brand new from Ducati come supplied with the barrel and pin, or from the states!

Squarehead (Simon) has very kindly sent me up some levers which I can hopefully use to make mine work - legend. Will keep this thread updated!

Just to clarify, it's this part that I have broken:

http://i62.tinypic.com/4jnorb.jpg

It goes in the lever here:

http://i57.tinypic.com/oqvx49.jpg

theres also a tiny grub screw which can be seen here on the right:

http://i62.tinypic.com/35n7m02.jpg

usually it is the grub screw which rounds off and cannot be removed as it is a 1.5mm hex allen head. Mine came out OK but the back of the pin (threaded end) has a nasty loctite applied to it from the factory which sticks fast and means you usually end up trashing it trying to get it out. From searching on google it seems to be a common problem but some people have had luck by heating it up and being able to remove the pin.

you can also see in the last picture that some do not have the tab that extends downwards which is needed to press the switch on the master cyclinder?

Update - received the used oberon levers and the ones that squarehead very kindly sent me up today.

Luckily the oberon ones fit perfect and had all the bits i need. I wasn't sure if they would as they came off an m900. So ive got a pair of the chinese shorty levers if anyone is interested? Wouldn't be surprised if no-one is after reading this thread and seeing how much of a ball-ache swapping them over can be!
