Guys,
Looking for advice and feedback

I'm going to change a few bits on the bike (See pics of what I'm thinking of doing)

first of all does anyone know what these plugs do?
http://s22.postimg.org/5tplugvpd/IMG_3974.jpg
http://s22.postimg.org/67qxu2fsx/IMG_3973.jpg
http://s22.postimg.org/ucrnbs03l/IMG_3972.jpg

Also I'm looking at taking my front sprocket cover off. But this involves taking the hydraulic clutch thing off does anyone what happens when I do this? e.g. fluid everywhere?

I'm going to order a nice set of rearsets from Pompone. Assuming they are a nice and easy straight swap out?

I'm also thinking about ordering these clip-ons from Desmoworld
http://s22.postimg.org/3nvazys8x/IMG_3997.jpg
Anybody got them? if so is it just a straight forward fit? Desmoworld is adding lots of extras on that I can't tell if I require or not.

Also thinking about this to
http://s22.postimg.org/eyxyobz41/IMG_3996.jpg
any opinions? anybody got one they could post up? I'm led to believe these simply fit on as if you had lifted your seat and are putting it back down.

Also I'm going (maybe to replace the headlight for a more 'traditional' one. Anyone got any advice e.g. where to source good quality lights and how much of a problem it is to fit / mods required.

And finally: suspension.
My rear shock has been swapped out at some point (I have receipts from the suspension company that done it). for an ohlins DU737, however I think the previous owner might have been a fair bit heavier than me. I've softened up the preload a fair bit but still not getting much sag when I sit on it....maybe 15-20mm. Also the rebound clicker is super awkward to access and very difficult to turn (think I need to take all load off rear to turn it easier). any suggestions? as is the rebound is severe but not ridiculous. was thinking of fitting a nitron for my weight and selling on the ohlins.

There is an ongoing thread somewhere about swapping the later lights for earlier types

Dirty,
Yep I had a read at that, and following it keenly. TBF the headlight is last on the list.

I'm waiting for word back from Pompone on the rearsets and so I'll start with those. Then I'm thinking new seat next (....maybe....still trying to make my mind up if I like it).

Then probably clip ons.

Then lastly the headlight.

I'd love a new type light on my old monster :(

Hi Ron, you should be able to take the front sprocket cover off without having to take off the "hydraulic clutch thing" first.

Cheers Baz,
I'll have another more detailed look, maybe it slides or something.

Nitron, Maxton and Wilbers do goos shocks, stick with a seperate remote rather than use and emulsion shock. I have a Wilbers on my 1100 Evo, it comes with the correct length hose and a bracket to hold the remote and mount it to the bike.
I can only vouch for the Wilbers as that os what I have on mine and it has transformed the back end of the bike along with the K-Tech fork conversion, good money well spent and not expensive.
I also have a set of Rearsets from Max, come complete with brake light switch mount etc, and plenty of adjustment, look good.
If you do a search of the forum, you will find links inc pictures of all the above.

Rearsets ordered . Now looking at risers that are lower. Anybody know what the shortest rise is that's available and who makes them. I.e. CNC racing do a 48mm riser, sounds awfully high to me.

I have fitted the risers from a 1100 monster as they are 15mm or more lower than the 1100 Evo ones, found them more comfortable 😀.

Was thinking something like this:

Any thoughts?

Got to say, I prefer the 1100 monster ones, they fit and look like originals, just lower :-)

TBF I'd refer if they were silver. But it's defo an option

I've managed to source nice billet aluminium silver risers. max rise about an inch or so.

So I'll see how they fit...or don't lol, and also how they look.

I'll post up pics of both the risers and rearsets when fitted.

Thinking seat wise, I might get my seat recovered in leather. Maybe a quilted style and possibly re-sculpted at the same time. that's a thinker tho

looking at head lights also and was wondering if the scrambler light would fit, quite like that one.

Funny that, measured mines tonight as well yep a good 15 to 20mm lower. Than mine. The ones I've order are 18mm to centre of bar.

Measured from the bolt hole mind. So fairly low. Also I noticed the bars have been rotated forward so I have a bit of play to rotate back plus further back some more. Looks like I might achieve exactly what I want.

New risers fitted tonight and bars rotated towards the rider. Much nicer and better riding position imo.

Couple issues:
The risers aren't as low as I'd hoped but still better and cleaner I think. Can't rotate the bars forward to quite the position I want due to the controls clusters having locating holes so I need to comprise slightly.

I'll post up pics soon and get some opinions, the mod is fully reversible if I want to go back to standard.

You can remove / grind off the the locating lugs in the switch gear, it is something you do on a race bike, never had one rotate on me.
This will allow you to have the bars at any angle.

Looks like a plastic pin type thing. Yeah was wondering what you would if you had bought renthal bars or something.

tbf they are probs about perfect now. I'd probably go too far anyway. :chuckle:

So on to issues.

http://s3.postimg.org/df571snqr/Shifter.jpg
So easy one to start, is the shift rod supposed to be at this angle?
http://s3.postimg.org/3vvi8c08j/Brake.jpg
Brake hose pipe is probably marginally too long to move the rearsets up without pinching it. Any suggestions? I don't want to trim it back just incase I introduce air in to the system.

Also I got a new rear brake hose with the kit, is this just a wee nicety if I feel like fitting it?

On the gear change side, have you used the correct spacers, as the ones in my kit, not marked and one side has a longer spacer than the other??

As you say not marked but I put the longer Spacer on the gear shift side...and the Shorter one on the Brake side.

I would be very surprised if it was the other way about as both mount perfect on the swing arm pivot.

That picture over exaggerates it quite dramatically.

If its just the plastic tube from the reservoir to the m/cylinder you can disconnect that without needing to rebleed as it on the other side of the master cylinder. Just have a cloth handy to soak up the fluid before it drips out over the bike, I always cover the bike with an old towel just in case any does spill.

To minimize spillage you can pinch the tube with your fingers and if you turn the pot upside down before you disconnect the pot and then no fluid can leak from it. Don't pump the brake with the reservoir disconnected or you will draw in air. You should make sure there is no trapped air in the new tube before you pump the brake lever. You might need to top up the fluid a bit afterwards depending on how much you spill :)

Mine looks the same, excuse the silver gear linkage rod, it is a spare that I have fitted for race shift.

Thanks for the photo Chris, much appreciated.

Did you fit the new brake line? That's beyond my skill level....Can't deal with things that leak everywhere lol.

chris.p

Does not need the brake line, think that was only for the 696/796/1100/1100s that have the passenger footrest hangers attached to the rider rearsets.

As said before, just snip a bit of the tube off between the resevoir and the mastercylinder.
