That steering damper is best left where it is, hanging on the garage wall. I once bought a monster to restore, and rode it around for a while before I stripped it. I couldn,t understand why the bike was handling very strangely, till I took off the steering damper ,similar type to yours. The handling was perfect once it was removed.
