Afternoon all!

So I'm doing a 2000 mile 7 day trip in europe this year and I've decided I need to get the monster up to the task (rather than take my old Bandit!). I have two main concerns with this 1) Is I have a bit of RSI and 200+ mile days start to cause discomfort, I'm worried 7 solid 200+ mile days won't give me recovery time 2) The stock seat causes major bollock issues.

I've read the comfort seat may help with the balls but I'm worried the increased height will cause more wrist issues. I was thinking the lowered seat might reduce the wrist problems but I'm 5ft 9 so I'm not sure if the lower seat will be too cramped (I'd say the stock height was perfect).

So I'm left with either bar risers (can anyone recommend any?) or a quite expensive sargeant seat.

Anyone else had this problem and what do you recommend?

Thanks,

Jon

P.S. has anyone else tried this? I presume on a 796 it would be as straght forward as a 696... http://www.slingshotracing.net/catalog/ducati-monster-handlebar-bar-riser-696-795-659-abs-p-238.html

Howdy Jon,

Well, I'm a little taller than you at 6ft 1ish and my bike is the 1100evo, so slightly different seat - handlebar setup.

I bought a 2nd hand comfort seat off here to try and at first wasn't keen. It was definitely plusher and didn't tilt my plums into the tank so much but I did feel it in my wrists more, so swapped back to the original. I switched between the two for a while before settling on the comfort seat full time. I feel more 'in' the bike on the original and 'on' it with the comfort.

I'm happy to lend you my comfort seat for your trip if you like. I can get by with the standard seat no problems as I have no long distance rides planned anytime soon.

Geographically its a bit of a stretch from the IoM to you but I may be coming over to Wolverhampton in the car in July so happy to sling the seat it the boot, you'd just have to post it back to me when you're done.

Drop me pm if you want to go that route.

All the best

Bonz

I have had an M1100 and currently have an evo.

The touring seat (red stitching) is slightly higher than the stock seat. It will definitely help lessen the squashed plums effect. It also reduces knee bend slightly which makes long distance riding more comfortable. I'm 5'10" and can get both feet flat on the ground with the touring seat fitted.

Bear in mind that the seat, pegs and bar position on the 796 are slightly different from the M1100 and evo. The difference between the evo and the M1100 is only 20mm higher bars, the pegs and seat position are identical.

This website http://cycle-ergo.com may help you to establish what seat height, bar position and peg position will be best for you.

Riding position is a very personal thing. What I find comfortable will be excrutiatingly painful for someone else. Sometimes it will take a bit of trial and error to find what works for you.

if you go for the higher seat, maybe either a throttlemeister (http://throttlemeister.com/applications.html#Ducati) or a throttlerocker (http://throttlerocker.com/how-it-works/) may help your wrist

Thanks for all the advice guys. I agree it's all about trial and error, as the throttle rocker is a cheap potential fix I've ordered one of those for starters.

Bonzo - I've dropped you a PM it would be great to try before I invest!

I swear by grip puppies too.

I had to replace the left one just last week as it ripped. It was awful using the standard grip during that short time.

Jon, couldn't see a pm.

I bought a comfort seat recently to solve the plums issue, but am not 100% convinced I like it; as has been said you do end up sitting on the bike rather than in it.

The material is grippy though, so you don't slide into the tank so much - although I only ever found this an issue when wearing jeans on the standard seat - leathers were fine.

I'm leaning towards paying P&P Seating another visit to get the standard seat customised. They're good folks - and not too far from you if you're in Wolves: http://www.ppseat.co.uk/default.asp

Apologies Jon.

I didn't realise my inbox was full. I've deleted a few so try again :)

I realise rather a long time has passed since the last post but can I ask a question ?
I am also suffering the same old problem with the wedding vegetables, I am currently considering how to cure the seat issue
I am contemplating shelling out big bucks for Sergeant or Corbin but also considering having my standard seat altered, not by raising the front, but by lowering the back therefore giving a flat platform to sit in
Any thoughts or experience in lowering the back of the standard seat ?
