So... I was on my way back from Portsmouth Tuesday night just as they were closing off the A3. Just about got through the cones before they closed it off and diverted everything up the slip road, and then pulled in for fuel about a mile later.
Net result was that, by the time I pulled out of the gas station, the A3 was totally empty going north.
Which meant the Evo and I got the entire Hindhead tunnel to ourselves.
