Evening All

Oh well....despite having a maintenance charger attached through the winter, the battery is goosed!

So....apart from a full service the monster now needs another battery!

Any favourite battery makes with a high cranking rate?

Best regards
Mark

What make was your last one?

I've used Motobatt on all my Ducati's with no issues what so ever.

Hello!

It was a Yuasa, Yorkie. I expected it to last

Does the Motobatt have a high cranking rate? The Yuasa is rated at 210...thought the Motobatt was around half the Yuasa rate?

I know I can get a Yuasa for about £45 online, but like you.....as a Yorkshire man, I don't want to spend bugger all...

Best regards
Mark

+1 for motobatt. My bike has been laid up since Nov last year - no power in my garage so the battery had been left for 4 months. Charged it for a couple of hours and the bike started first push of the starter. They are originally designed for snowmobiles and jet ski's, so well suited to cold starting.

Another vote for Motobat.

My 916 had got through 3 Yuasas but each one, even when new, would need keeping on a trickle charge otherwise after 2-3 weeks there wouldn't be enough charge left to both crank it over and run the fuel pump/ignition at the same time.

I replaced it with a Motobat 3 years ago and it's not been on the charger since, first ride since November last Saturday and it started first time with no bother.

My Monster has only had a Motobat and despite having a high compression it too starts first time and more importantly spins over quick enough to avoid sprag damage.

I never believed the Motobat 'fanboys' until I got one but now I'm a convert, only downside is that it's slightly bigger and heavier than a Yuasa but it's worth the extra weight to know it'll start every time even after a layup.

BTW the size difference isn't an issue on the Monster as it fits in the battery box just fine but I had to make a new battery retaining bracket for the 916 which has a much tighter fitting battery box.

... and another vote for Motobatt. Fitted one on my 900SS. There's a very comprehensive test somewhere on the web done by an expert in battery tech and the Motobatt came out on top. It held its charge much longer than any other and had excellent CCA output.

Here's a decent set of tests. Motobatt comes out way in front, particularly when left for 8 months!

I have Motobatt fitted to both my 750SSie and 900 monster, very happy with both, next time I need a battery it'll be motobatt again!

I bought both the one for my 900 Monster and for my little race bike from Mad4Bikes- Mike is a reasonable chap and if you email I am sure will give a bit of a discount if you can't find it cheaper elsewhere.

One thing I will say for him though is that when the one for my race bike failed just out of guarantee he replaced it without question.

According to the listing this is the model for the 1000ie:

Price up a shorai battery from carrot cycles ( not a joke place, it does exist :-) )
Very light and works a treat.

Yay! I have a motobatt in mine, haven't used it since nov, I bet i'll need to turn it over a bit to let the carbs fill but other than that it'll be fine.

Took out the fuse for the diagnostics last winter and this spring is the first without a new battery.
No charging all winter. Started on first push. Can't believe it took me several winters to figure it out!

Carbs don't have the problem. Just injection with ECU.

For ref: Mine's a 2001 M900ie
