What does the red knob and the brass screw do, if anything? Thanks :)

I think the red fing is where you put gas in... Most moto cross shops can do that, or off roady type places, should it need re-gassing.
The Brass screw is definatly the horizontal hold for the flux capacitor..

The brass adjuster is for the rebound.

Cool, thanks guys.
I didn't realise it had a flux capacitor Gazza but that would explain the strange feeling in the underpants :)
So presumably one of these knobs is also rebound? If so what is the other one for?

Purple = Rebound
Red. = Preload on remote resevior

On the SACH shock the brass thing is purely for decoration. Prise it out, polish, seal with lacquer and replace. Note that the decorative function increases with an inverse proportionality to the shocks age (i.e. works a lot less as it gets older than it used to which was never much)
The red thing is for yes, where the nitrogen goes. Don't be tempted to use liquid nitrogen, or nitrogen rich compounds like tetrazole .. just the gas.
Oh and the shocks don't make funny noises if you use helium from party balloons... damn shame that

Aha, thanks Rollo
And thanks for that link Yorkie, seems I have some reading and learning to do :)
Purple = Rebound
Red. = Preload on remote resevior
Almost: remote reservoir knob is compression damping.
Preload is either castelated collar on the end of the spring or a remote adjuster knob on a hose.

Oh yes, 1 more question. The 2 banjo bolts connecting the remote reservoir to the shock. Can I loosen them a little to help with fitting it neatly or will stuff escape and blow up if I do that? :on:
In theory you could loosen them fractionally. In practice you'll spray hydraulic oil everywhere and have to re-gas the shock.

Thanks Slob. Their current positions will dictate location then :)
Ok,
Red knob = gas refill - don't touch!
Brass screw = rebound/decoration?
Red arrow = Compression damping
Purple arrow = rebound

My brass knob works when twiddled with. (Soft then hard)

As an 'ard northern lad we'd expect nothing less than a brass knob and accessories

My flux capacitor only works when I hit 88mph, then it's...
