The organisers at Spa in Belgium have now set a 600cc minimum capacity limit. No Limits were completely unaware of the rule change, and phoned them to check today. Jonzi gave me the heads up a few weeks ago. The new limit is being strictly enforced now, so that means I can't attend the weekend on the NC30. I've cancelled the booking now and will get a full refund. No Limits said they will update the booking page to stop others getting caught out. I will book track day at Snetterton and Brands Hatch in March/April instead.

I was really looking forward to this event - what a let down :(

Glad you got a resolution just a shame that it wasn't the one that you wanted.

Seems a bit poop really, considering the bike is actually quite quick.

Make a post about the other track days you are doing, depending on dates, I will be up for a few.

That's bad luck GT.

I wonder if 'strict' would stop an M600 (583cc)!

Just get some fireblade stickers on it and ride fast!

If it's to stop slow people being on track I'm in trouble...

The reason behind the 600cc limit was that spa is a very fast track, and the relative top speeds of sub 600cc machines like the NC30 compared to larger capacity bikes. The NC30 has just over 60bhp which is 50 less than most modern 600cc sports bikes, and around 40mp down on top speed. Depends on what gearing i run... but it's flat out at around 130mph. This isn't a problem on short and twisty UK tracks, where large capacity bikes struggle to get out of third gear and can't use the advantage. The NC30 can carry a lot of corner speed, and only really loses out on longer straights most of the time.

Well it's a silly rule then, or at least if not a silly rule then a silly standard by which to govern the rule. I guess cc though is easier to standardise than bhp or top speed. A Hardly Davidson Sportster is 800cc+, +/- 50bhp and might hit 100mph downhill on a good day :)

It's also 10 hp more than my 600ss that is allowed.

Stupid rule.

As Dirty said it should be on power output rather than capacity

Bex on a 125 would have ran rings round most of the people in the novice group.

Ahem, Inters Group more like. :)

jonzi
14-01-2015, 09:44 PM
That I am not sure about, inters was fast, where as novice was dangerously slow.

On the 675, she will probably be middle of the pack I reckon.

It's those straights and the big up hill that are a killer though.

Not really, there's the back complex section or what ever it's called, other wise it's big power straights.

I have some videos of it if you think it would help, but they mostly show my bottom as the go pro is on the rear of the bike.

To help me make my mind up pronto - what's the damage inc accommodation? £380 + extras. So is it £600-£700 for accommodation / food etc or are there any hidden extras. Does this price ship the bike or is this track time only. Do people drive - as it's 'only' 3 1/2 hours away from Calais?

I'm sure google would answer all my questions but that button on my keybaord is broken at the moment - a dose of lazybastarditis.

Dunno about cost, probably about that for track time and accomodation

We are going to ship the bikes, either hire some vans and drive them, or get a man to take them over.

It's a good track, you should come.

Bring two bikes if you think one won't last a day.

Bring two bikes if you think one won't last a day.

Two bikes that work ... more chance of me winning the lottery. Which is pretty unlikely as I don't even buy tickets.

However, tempted by this though and if I can drive to Italy, Calais and a bit further should be a doddle. I'll have to get my Google button fixed and do the sums.

Would be good to catch up with some old faces though.

Re the groups, can you swap around them as I'm sure I'll be a bit track rusty. I wouldn't want be stuck in novices, once I've blown away my cobwebs.

and check the noise limits

jonzi
21-02-2015, 08:49 AM
You will be fine with the noise limits, they didn't test last time as far as I can remember, they just checked if you had a baffle or not if it was a race can.

As for groups, They do it in 4 groups, I wouldn't go in novice if I were you. Last year it was very slow and very erratic.

Go in the inters or fast. They use transponders so move the groups around anyway.

Friends,
As this is going to be a near two week trip for Bex and I in the car with trailer, I've already booked by Eurotunnel spaces, it being August and all.

August 6th.
10.50 am Eurotunnel. Arrives 12.25 pm.

We're returning on the 16th August.

There are some nice places in the centre of town, but you might have problems parking the van. You'd have better luck in the evening when all the day trippers have left.

Ken: Your girlfriend's very pretty.
Jimmy: She ain't my girlfriend. She's a prostitute I just picked up.
Ken: I wasn't aware there were any prostitutes in Bruges.
Jimmy: You just have to look in the right places... brothels are good.
Ken: Well, you've picked up a very pretty prostitute.
Jimmy: Thank you.

Looking forward to it.

The GSXR has gone, fun while it lasted but only at prison entry speeds, so wasn't getting used. I've replaced it with a newish toy. Its loud, a twin and an absolute hoot, especially on over run BOOM!!!

Yup, I've gone orange, well, black actually.
