My first post so.........be gentle : )
I have just bought a 1996 M900 carb model witha full termignioni RACE exhaust and dyno jet stage 2 kit allegedly. With the bike came the original end cans but no down pipes! Searching on flea bay Ive spotted two oem down pipes for sale at durhamducs, one for a 96 model and one for a 99,but both pipes look like they have threaded inserts in them (for sensors maybe?) are these ok to fit incase my mot tester throws his teddy out of the pram?

Alex(noobie to this forum and ducati's)
ps will it run ok at least to and from the mot test centre, with the oem exzorsts?

Alex, you should not have any trouble at MOT time with the Termi's fitted plenty on here have them and sail through the MOT, if you are at all worried the easiest and cheapest way to make it quiet for test time is to fit some baffles / db killers, 2 minutes to fit or remove

if you really want to go through the hassle of changing the exhaust, what you have described will run perfectly, carby models are not to bothered about changes like that.

I think it's always nice to have the standard parts tucked away but I have never fitted the standard cans on my 900 since it's first MoT back in 2000.

The chap that passes mine always jokes that the clutch is louder than the exhausts (Ferracci race cans) but why not just run it down to where you'd take it and have a chat with the guys to double check they'd be okay with it.

Thanks Kato and Flip, I'll just have to wait to see what the mot mafia say on Monday: (

Hello and welcome Alex....you're not into aeroplanes by any chance are you?

I'm with Kato and Flip accept for having a word with the tester...that just draws attention to the pipes and puts him on the spot.

The pipes you have found will fit okay and will always benefit from a good polish..
The raised bosses on each pipe with a blanking screw are standard and are for gas testing probes if you have a tune up.

I think the bass rumble of an Italian V twin with a dry clutch pulling up will draw attention enough but I'd only have a word if I didn't know the place- many look at Ducati's being a bit noisy anyway so no problems.

As I understand it if the pipes are marked 'Not for Road Use' or Race Use Only' and such then technically it's a fail so cover that up with something is they are.

All bike mot testers have a full bike license themselves, so they tend to be fairly sympathetic to noisy exhausts. I wouldn't even ask whether or not they are OK, just don't mention them. I've had no issues with my "race only" termis on my bike.

Hi Alex,
Where are you taking your bike for an MOT???
I live in Perth and take mine to Burnbrae garage other side of Methven on the Crieff rd A85and all my Ducati's have passed with race cans!
Any queries let me know.

Hi Alex good thing about Burnbrae is if you book your time turn up she makes you a brew and by the time you've drunk it it's done!
They have even sorted my beam alignment and r clips on various older bikes so they passes nae problems!
Hope you pass on Monday :D

I could have probably sold your aircraft a couple of years ago, when my pilot/builder buddy lived next door. I did instigate a couple of plane deals. (I'm a yacht broker now..:chuckle:...Cleat-R-us)

He let me help build the wings of his Vanns RV8. It was lovely to work with such a perfectionist...Managed to have a flight with him too..:D

I can't believe that passed Dirty- I'd never have passed it without the rear caliper being under-slung. :chuckle:
