Thanks Alan for all your hard work sorting this out. I think it's going to be a great Weekender, new venue, new county, great roads and a mere stones throw from the Big Smoke. The hotel is fab, right in the middle of a beautiful village surrounded by vineyards (yup, you read that right!) and it's run by some very lovely Italians. And there's more history than you can shake sword and shield at too!

If you've been to a Weekender before you'll know how much fun they are and if you haven't now's the time! It's a brilliant, friendly biking weekend and if you don't know anyone don't worry, we don't bite (unless we're hungry...)

Anyway, we all hope you like our plans for 2015, look forward to seeing you all there!

Yes thanks Alan for doing the main stuff. Hoping I can help out with loads still as a now non-monster owner. I would still like to attend but will give up my place without a problem.

Thanks to Alan C and the other Kenties for organising.

Andy & I are up for this (I think we count as part of the Wessex contingent.) Hopefully this time we'll both be able to bring our own Monsters!

Deposit transferred to Alan C's bank account and forms will be posted tomorrow.

Beer, local wine all fine by me. Ditto mead (although not Moniack - still can't face that brand of mead after a heavy sesh on it as a student 20 years ago!:booze::dizzy:). Probably wisest to keep me away from the arrows (thrown or shot from a bow), especially if I've been on the mead!

This will be my first Weekender Alan. Can you give me an idea when the fun kicks off and winds down again?
I was thinking of riding down at a leisurely pace on Friday and heading off again Sunday afternoon but I don't want to miss too much, so a vague notion of the itenary would help me decide how many nights to book.

Do you know if the hotel has a good vegatarian menu?

Hope the Hotel is fairly flexible...It's a long way ahead to book.!

Hi Mr Gazza,
The rooms are available from 2pm on Friday, Saturday we will have couple of things to do (not arranged yet) but probably ride to coast and ride to local castle ?? evenings are spent socialising :booze:. Sunday we will have National ride out on a chosen route and stop off for lunch etc. afternoon is spent voting for bike awards etc and more socialising !
Maybe good to take advantage of 3rd night discount and leave on Monday if possible.
I will agree menus with the hotel and food looks very good, we do have fish on the Menu but I have also asked for vegetarian option.
Weekenders are great fun and you get to meet lots of people.

Hope that helps

Alan

Thanks Alan....Yes it does help.

Might give Friday a miss and head off at the crack of Sparrow's Saturday morning. Sunday sounds like the "main" day.

A vegatarian "option" (singular) sounds like something weird with a lot of cheese....:chuckle:...I asked if they had a vegatarian MENU..:D

Going to fun whatever though...Are you thinking of having a look at Dungeness?... one of Englands wierdest wildernesses.?

Ok.
I will agree the menu, we will have four choices of starter, main and puddings, I have asked for a vegetarian option, do not think they will do separate vegetarian menu but I will ask.
Sunday is the main day

Thanks for the extra info Alan...I feel that i am putting you to a lot of trouble.

I had a quick look at thier veggie menus on thier site and found them a bit wierd and cheesey..:chuckle:

It made me think I might prefer to go B&B and grab something in the evening somewhere fairly close.

I can call the hotel myself to see if I can sort something, unless you would prefer to do so?

No problem paying deposit and balance via yourself inc UKMOC donation if I do go for B&B.

Sorry to be an awkward customer...Always one aint there?...:look:

Great photos Albie...You should be the club historian..:D

Makes me more determined to get to next years Weekender...:D

You hinted at some comments Alan..
Don't know how to put this without offending...I'll try, as non is intended.

Looking forward to meeting up with some likeminded souls, but as the only breadwinner in a growing family. I'm finding it difficult to justify £185 on two nights board for just myself.
Looking at the hotel's menus I can't find anything I would want to eat , let alone cater for my "special dietary needs"....Just put me down as faddy...;)

I approached the hotel for a nights B&B with deposit to be paid via UKMOC, so's to keep eveything in order. After some long consideration, they have told me that I could have a room if there is one left after all the two or three night blocks are taken...Don't mind me, I'll sleep in the stables.:spin:
I can understand the hotel wanting to make the most possible money but it leaves me feeling excluded, and slightly offended.
Basically they are saying they have two or three night full board deals. take it or leave it.!

Now i am sure that the weekender does not revolve around the hotel, and I will get there one way or another, but I am sure there must be others thinking that the actual hotel deal is not going to suit them perfectly?

Something that a stalwart member mentioned to me, is that it may be difficult for some to find the deposit and commit so close before Chris####s. After all the new year is when most start to think about thier summer hols.

You are not to think of this as reflecting badly on your stirling efforts at organising this Alan. They are greatly appreciated by all..You probably already have me down as a miserable git anyway..:chuckle:

Maybe the "Brickwall" could be persuaded to have a bit more "give" in lieu of the considerable bookings that you have already taken....Good luck with that...:D

alan c
21-11-2014, 09:10 AM
Hi Gary,

I am pleased you wish to join us all at the weekender.

With the hotel bookings there are constraints, it is a business after all, we have agreed that we will book all the rooms as a package with meals included.
I understand some people may not be able to afford but as you would understand it is very hard to suit all budgets. (The hotel has requested deposits in November, the same as most other years.)

We hope to see as many of our club members at the event :ukm:

It's funny you should say that Alan...

Not entirely sure that we are strong enough in this area to run a Weekender...But y' never know. (Let me get one under my belt)

I had been growing thoughts of an "Alternative" Weekender as an extra date on the UKMOC calendar. Maybe at the other end of the Summer, say September? The principal of the idea would be to get a hotel out of the equation, but how to do that without resorting to camping eludes me so far...There are plenty of B&Bs and static caravan parks out this way which reduce their rate considerably after the school holidays....So..?? Maybe... Well it's not quite 2016 yet!!

I've been having similar thoughts over the last year or two, and am constantly on the lookout for a suitable venue.
Maybe we could join forces ?
I already have the option of a good live band lined up, as well as the use of a large marquee and PA and lighting rigs, if that kind of caper could be on the cards.
Though whether it should be an extra event or simply a different take on the normal weekender is still an open question.

alan c
22-11-2014, 01:15 PM
That's brilliant, great if you could take on 2016 !

I would say stick to May for weekender as September quite a few people are off to Belgium for the MOB weekend. But of course all open to discussion.

PS - Can we keep this post for 2015, we can PM each other to talk about 2016.

Thanks

22-11-2014, 01:26 PM
Okay Utopia.! Sperm meets Egg and an idea starts to snowball.

I will think about this a bit more over the coming months, my ideas are very embryonic at the moment...Really need to see what the weekender is all about before going mad.

I would prefer to offer something a bit different to the Weekender but not to compete with it or change it...Must be mindful not to clash with the Belgium rally as you say..

Ooops .. yes another thead required..!!

Saturday would be better for me, but in saying that Sunday is possible.
The idea of a group ride down sounds like fun.

Hi Al,
I have been to the Weekender every year recently and wouldn't want you to think I haven't booked because I don't appreciate the venue or hard work you have put in. I think it looks like a great venue in what I know is a lovely part of the country with great roads as well. It unfortunately clashes with a plan I already had. There is a slim chance that I may pop by on my way back into the UK sometime Saturday.
I hope people book up soon to make it a total sell out to the UKMOC.

Hi Al,

I have given this some thought over the last few weeks and weighed up if its possible to attend. Sadly however its not, I have quite a few commitments already planned. The 2015 weekender is the 1st 1 that I'll miss having been to the last 4, they've been really good fun. So good Luck and hope it sells out as you'd like.

Any newbies in two minds about booking - don't be put off if you haven't been before.

While there are quite a few of us regulars who are veterans of weekenders past, every one of us at some point will have been a newbie, a little apprehensive about what to expect. I hadn't met many people from UKMOC before I went to my 1st weekender in 2010, but was made very welcome, and made plenty of friends. The weekender organisers always achieve a good balance between the riding and chatting/tyre kicking/admiring other folks' bikes/drinking aspects.

Yep, I'll second what Mrs C said.
My experience was exactly the same.

I will have to be a day tripper again this year though, as the budget won't stretch to the full monty.

Will be paying deposits to Hotel at the end of the week.

30 people booked into 15 rooms.

9 rooms left to book !

If you are thinking of coming please book asap as not sure how long hotel will hold rooms.

It would be a shame if rooms not taken and hotel not fully booked by UKMOC.

If you have any questions or need more information please PM me.

Thanks

It's really not normally my kind of thing at all, but I have just been very pleasantly entertained by Mapp and Lucia on the telly....I loved the actors, thier characters, the cars, the old bikes in the background and most of all the location.
So I googled it to find that is was filmed in Rye...Just a stones throw from the weekender..This means that if there are no runs to, or through Rye, I will be sneaking off for a private viewing....:D:D
