After talking for hours with Ped earlier, I decided to dig deeper into my Monster's past and examined the date stamps on the plastics and the dates on the build ticket. Mine was first sold as new at Aye Gee in Welling Kent via Importer Three Cross. The first owner was an Alex McLeod (of the clan McLeod..?) of Fulham, then a storage company in SW London had it as a company bike, then a chap in Southampton, then the bloke in Fordingbridge I bought it off at 11k miles on 6.9.2001. Needless to say, most of the stamps in the book are in my name, the most recent being at 38k miles and that's the back cover when I gave up paying for servicing.

I found the build ticket- like a small receipt- years ago stashed somewhere within my bike.

Any '93 ers out there care to add in this format??

First reg: 13 09 1993

Frame number: 000497

Date stamp on parts: 2 93

Build dates on ticket: 20/1/93 and 10-03-93

Current mileage: 46679

Not sure about build date - I would have to clean it as I commute on it and its filthy at the mo'
but registered 20-08-93, but the frame and engine number are slightly higher than yours

NO yellow hoop, all sorts of chops - works for me!

The two tickets you have there were once rapped around the wiring loom, you would usually only find one suggesting there may have been a replacement loom at some point, great to see the old ones still running and being used

Does the 1992 750ss I bought from Zimbo recently count?
I can't remember the date of first registration but I can check tonight.
Is undergoing some TLC at the moment but will be back on the road in the spring.
For Zimbo, the dent in the tank has been beaten out and new carbs have been ordered!

Very nice early Monster...I always like to see a yellow hoop..;)

I like the action shots too.

All it needs is a little bit of polish to the exhaust and she's perfect. :spin:

Mine is well documented and pictured elsewhere but for the record:

Date of registration. 11/08/93
Chassis number. 1015
Date codes on various things are 4/93
Current mileage is 37k

I believe I'm only the third owner, bike was originally sourced by Metropolis Motorcycles as a private import from Germany. Bought by me just over 11 years ago from the very newly established Moto Rapido.

Here's a recent pic

After a six year lay up, it's been ace to get it out and about this year

Cool. Hope it's mine then. One of you kind folk may mot and tax him for me!
Being honest I'm nearly there myself now. He's had a lot of new bits (electrical mainly) and work doing on him. I had him checked in a pre-mot and I think I got my money's worth in the reams of paper I recieved listing the faults!

Ooh, that IS early!!! Dammit- I thought I had the oldest... :fiery:

Pedro's really is bang-tidy. Mine is undergoing a sympathetic rebuild at the mo'- repainting what needs it, ie the engine, wheels and sdome ally parts like foothangers, but leaving the frame as is.

My 900 is nowhere close with it being a '97 registration- I do have a yellow hoop to go on though if that helps?

But if it was an open competition I'd raise your X reg Pantah for a 1965 Mach 1. :woot:

Sold mine last year :( to a bloke in Manchester area, it was registered May 1993 on a K plate.

The frame ended 517. Perhaps it would win a prize for the lowest mileage ....... 6500m

According to 'How many left' website there's less than 25 early Monsters out there - and that included SORNd ones like mine. I'd guess that most don't look as tidy as one or two of the ones pictured on here though. I know mine certainly doesn't, although as far as I'm aware it's pretty original!

I live round the corner from Aye Gees, they're still going, they're an Indian dealer now, as in the bikes not the food!

Aha, that explains why I've seen an increase in Victorys riding around the area!

AG have been virtually every dealer there is over the years. No brand loyalty in Welling :)

So is the bloke riding it...

Anyway, For a bike that was built somewhere in the dark days of the history of the Ducati Monster, sent off to Hong Kong, brought back to the UK via Felixstowe, headed to Cornwall, then was bought by the current numpty owning it, you can't argue the old Nessie is a rather well travelled Monster :D

Just a shame the DVLA put her down as an L reg, coz that is what she is not ;)

I have a K Reg 1993 Monster as a slow project. It's frame number 509, first registered as new in GB by independent import on 09 June 1993.
There seem to be at least three groups of earlier frame numbers in the UK: 120s, 250s and 500s, but the numbers don't seem to relate to when they were registered. There are also some extra ones that arrived from Japan in later years.
They don't seem to have been very particular about stock control in '93,
A bit of digging has confirmed that the "Independent Importer" was Moto Cinelli, so that's as official as they came back then.
I don't think it's the oldest though and am waiting to see who else comes forwards........

This thread is good :D We'll have a better understanding of our bikes on the UKMOC than Ducati HQ have soon!

The first owners name for mine is quite interesting (in a Ducati UK type of way anywho), Michael Richard Snell. He bought the bike in Hong Kong back in 1993, then had it shipped to the UK and had it serviced in Felixstowe in 1995, and by 1996 it was being serviced by someone else.

This could make a good episode of Time Team :D

That was more the reply I got from a lovely lady a Bologna Ducati, when I asked some questions about my bike!

The how many left and similar websites use data from DVLA and their taxation / SORN records. Thing is round that time many bikes weren't correctly identified by model at registration time.

Many will just be Ducati or Ducati 900 or similar. I have a 906 like that, one year there were only 2 taxed and 4 on SORN but theres a few more than that about. When I taxed mine, the numbers never changed cos it wasn't properly listed.

Moto Cinnelli were the importer up till 2000, there was a guy called Hoss Elm running it. That became Ducati UK.
