Does anyone know what the cylinder pressure should be for a 1992 750ss engine?
I measured mine at about 100 psi in each cylinder but I can't find out what the maximum should be. Google didn't turn up any results and I do not have a manual. Thanks.

Also, is the in-line fuel filter in the tank standard and where can I get one?

Should be around 140 with a less than 10% diferential between cyls, should be done with the engine warm

Kato, many thanks - a bit low then, though the engine was cold. No change in pressure with a squirt of oil in the barrel but the pressure was holding so no obvious leaks.

The hot/cold test can make quite a difference, My M900 (high-comp pistons) reads around 20psi less when cold.

For the record I got 213psi front and 208psi rear with the rear showing the greatest drop on a cold reading.

Dukedesmo, good to know thanks.
If and when I get the engine to run for a while (carb problems I think) I'll do a test on a warm engine!

The fuel filter on the injection Monsters, which lives inside the tank is a Mahle 145 If I remember correctly...Probably the same for an SS ?.

I found the cheapest to be Opie Oils. That particular one is also common to a lot of BMWs and is sold as a replacement BMW part.

If its a carb your filter is on the RHS of the bike - outside of the tank

The SS models with carbs have an internal fuel pump with a filter perched on to of it.

My haynes manual shows a plastic cased filter which looks to be exactly the same size as the Mahle 145. The Mahle one has a metal case and is important to get the right one for the Monster as it fits in a clip fixed inside the tank.
The SS one appears to be quite ridgidly fixed to the pump by a short piece of rubber tube. whether or not it is clipped inside the tank I do not know.
Without being certain I would say the "145" would work, but if not, there are plenty on here who would take it off your hands..

Mr Gaza, it is the one inside the tank and I found one on fleabay - many thanks. Not the Mahle 145 but a 'Ducati' one from Portugal at a reasonable price.
