VW and Ducati combined- sounds like a car for me... and a recipe for disaster. Reminds me of the Alfa/Nissan Cherry from the late 80’s . Instead of Alfa design and Nissan engineering, they went the other way- boring Nissan ‘styling’ and dodgy Alfa engineering. Total sales flop. Hmmm....

I'm waiting for someone to do a car based on the Kawasaki H2R engine.

300 bhp in a Westfield? Yes please... :)

Not the first Ducati powered car......

I like the look of it a lot however......when I looked at that in my garage everyday and saw the VW badge I would always be disappointed, so its not for me, the Spartan on the other hand is a much better proposition

this is apparently "748 based" but I can't figure out how unless it's built for a 5 year old

you sit next to the motor not in front of it Steve

And I hope Stevo realises it's a go-kart and not a full sized car...

ok, think how big a 748 engine is, and how big a person is next to it... I still can't see where a human fits in that picture?!

I should have used my DD engine to do something similar when I lost the frame :D

I used to race 125cc 2 stroke karts capable of 110/120 mph depending on the track/gearing! That kart must be capable of breaking the space/time continuum!

Heres one I snapped at WDW in 2010, looking at the clocks, I'm guessing S4R...

My Stepdad bought a Cherry Europe GTI against buying the Turbo version. It went well very well with the flat boxer engine. Lairy black and green seats though and silver paint work. I liked it back then.

Saw one for sale a short while ago but not tempted as now Alfa less myself.

Interesting to see the 2 different solutions. Bottom one is much simpler. Just stretch the kart and place the engine directly and centrally behind the driver. Wouldn't do the handling any favours. Top solution is much more elegant and traditional but the weight of the engine, usually countered by the driver looks to have been additionally countered by the addition of a hell of a lot of counter weights.

don't like it

prefer the v6 alfa convertible I have siting on my drive at present, its a lot more Italian and less bland than a glorified VW beetle

Power to weight ratios are much better- one thing that put me off the newer Alfa Spider as it's far overweight. The new MX5 is being co designed with Alfa and they're intending to use it as th eplatform for the new Spider. Now if that has a decent lightweight V6 in I'll be interested!

I wish

Alfa no longer involved with this deal, its now going to be badged as a fiat abarth

new newer spider being overweight ??? no idea its got a serious design fault, roof is too low and I don't fit into it, have the earlier 916 based spider, lighter and with a alfa motor rather than a GM based engine on a saab chassis

Me too. I tried a 'new' spider and found it smaller fit than my old Mk1 MX5 so that was the end of that! It's a lardy old bugger too so despite good power, it's slower than the 916 Spider. Almost bought a 916 but got a Freelander instead at the time. Which wasn't a good idea in the end, despite having a very good one, it still went belly up. Bought an old Audi A4 Avant, 2.5 v6 TDI Quattro to play with. 180bhp easily uppable to 290-300 bhp and stupid torque with hybrid turbos, injectors and map. Cheap enough to not worry if it goes pop...

It has all been done a lot earlier of course by Ducati's neighbours in Bologna called Tecno for a kind of back in the day one make series.

That'll be a 250cc Mach1 engine in there then.....
