I have just returned from a couple of hours ride trying to get on with the 1200s. It isn't working at the mo. it was a frustrating day.

As I am on tyres with about 40 miles on them I was taking it super careful and smooth, I nearly lost the back a couple of times at around 70 mph but I will put that sown to new tyres and a cold day for now.

My biggest gripe is the throttle response. I had it in touring mode all day but it is almost impossible to smoothly roll on and off the throttle. Gets interesting mid corner with new tyres. I have about 10mm play in the throttle before the power kicks in, is this right?? It seems like there is a bit too much turn on the accelerator before anything happens and then when it does it is soo jerky. I must have read about 20 reviews on this bike and also ridden one a good few months ago and my experience and all the reviews say silky throttle response. My expeperiemce today is that it's a bag of sh*t.

Does anybody know if there is a TPS that can be reset or tweaked to sort this out? Not happy tonight. Siiiiigghhh.

Cheers

Have you tried sport mode? I found it felt much closer to having a proper throttle cable than touring mode, and it made for a much easier, more relaxed ride.

Is it 2nd hand or brand new?

It's an ex demo bike. 6 months old, 3000 miles.

If throttle response is the biggest gripe, what are the other gripes? Just wondering if any could be related or perhaps give a hint as to any underlying issue/s?

My other gripe is that there is little to no rebound damping on the forks. I brought it to an Ohlins specialist and they say for around £150 they can sort it so not too fussed about that at the mo. Ducati say it comes with very little damping on the rebound as a safety thing. I don't get it but can't be bothered looking into it further. Will get it sorted when I have the time with the Ohlins guys. I am really just getting use to ridding it so I am sure some of things will mean changing my riding style slightly but no matter how smooth, fast, slow i was on the throttle it was just like a switch, nothing and then 'punch' the power throws in. I am sure there must am electrical thing that can smooth this out.

It doesn't sound normal to me, I'd drop it into a dealer under warranty if I were you.

My recollection of the 1200 Monster was that the throttle was very light - too much so, really - but I wouldn't call it snatchy. I found sport mode much more direct and predictable than the other modes, and very much preferred it even around town.

Ducati often build bikes with Zero rebound damping its not a safety issue thats B/S its an economy measure

Oh really? The forks are fully adjustable they have damping adjusters on them its just the diffrence between haveing it all the way up and all the way down is absolutky neglegable Well I will be getting it sorted anyway. You read all the hype about Ohlins Suspension/ shocks on the S and when you look into it hey are just pretty standard from hat I can gather.

After another IDE I have come to the conclusion this particular bike is a piece of sh*t.

Going to leave it with Ducati and let them do something with it.

Have you thought about chopping it in for an 1100 evo? :running:

Not had a problem with 'snatchy' throttle at all... especially in touring mode... even hammering it around Silverstone or Spa never once felt it was going to throw me in a corner...

I paide £40 to get the suspension fully adjusted whilst I was at Cadwell and again not finding any problems, and I'm a shade under 11 stone these days...

Get the dealer to look at it or adjust your riding style.

I am around 12 stone so I am sure with a bit of adjustment can get he suspension working spot on. I test rode a 1200 a few months ago and even had one or a couple of days and loved it. If it was as snatchy as I is now I never would have wanted one. If I bring it into Ducati and they say it is normal I don't know why I would do, and by would probably charge me for the pleasure too :(

Just a thought, may check the chain tension as if it's lack this could cause a snatch couldn't it. ??

Just need to find out what it should be .....

Ok, just checked the chain. The sticker says it should be 30-32mm of play from a certain point. I have just checked and there is 35mm of play. Doesn't seem that much out. Could this be causing the snatchyness I described ??

Why not book yourself a test ride on 1200S at your local dealer? At least you'll be able to compare the throttle response of the two bikes and work out if it's a 'feature' of the new design, or it's its a problem that's unique to yours.

I went for a test ride on a 1200 and must admit I really really liked it, awesome engine and I'd not describe it as snatchy on the throttle. But I've not ridden a 1100 so can't comment on how the two differ!
