Hi all,

Right, open cover now sorted so now for the next bits, namely stainless springs and pressure plate.

I understand the stainless springs as the clutch is now exposed I do however wonder about the pressure plate so forgive what may be dull questions.

I see many pressure plates out there of all different colours, I presume the original will just rust up if used and no-one wants to see a rusty part.
Is there any reason though you can not just paint or powder coat the original plate ? I assume that the rattling about in there is just too much for painting or coating but wonder if any-one has tried it.

Cheers Funkatronic but the S4R is blue so I will be going the blue or gold route for the innards.

I painted the standard pressure plate with a black Halfords rattle-can, looks great and it doesn't lack anything compared to a blingy aftermarket part. You get a choice of colours too...

Its alloy - and I sprayed mine (std Shake can plus petrol resistant lacquer) to match the frame two years ago - no problem
- and the next winter fettle will see it another colour using the same method

Cheers guys, that'll save shed loads, now to look out the paint code for the S4R and get the right blue.

If any-one has some second hand springs give is a shout ( I am presuming you don't want to sell yours separately from the plate Funkatronic).

Cheers.

Best to remove (and replace) the bearing when you paint it, they only cost around £3-4 and have a hard life.

Does rattle can metallic paint last or is it only gloss colours?

I have had mine powder coated and so far it has lasted really well. Polished the one on my SS.

Don't see why not?

On the Monster I used etch primer first followed by black VHT (because I had them) but on the 916 I just used black gloss with no primer and it was fine.

Clean/degrease well before you start though.

In the summer I fitted a carbon open clutch cover to my 2000 900ie Dark, now I want to replace the rusty clutch springs for stainless steel, the collars for some anodised ones and maybe the pressure plate. I've been looking on eBay at diffrent springs and collars, and have noticed some sellers saying their spring are not for the M900ie, but others seem to say that theirs fit all monsters, and I'm sure I've seen one seller selling different length collars. I'm a little confused as to what I should be looking for.
