Seems a bit odd writing this as I think people are more interested in the new bikes but I thought I'd do a quick write up of my old but new to me, 95 M900. I've now owned six Monsters, nearly all versions except one with a radiator and the new Audi Gladius type (I'm sure I'll like it next year) and my last steed was a Sports Classic GT1000.
It's not what I expected to say the least, to compare it to the GT, which I loved but my commute was killing it, it's so much lighter, the brakes are brilliant, it handles great, the GT was awful when pushed - even with upgraded forks, the power delivery is much quicker than I imagined, I've had a 95 and 2000 Monster 600 and I thought it would kind of be the same but just with a much better top end but it's actually pretty rapid through the gears and hits a pretty good speed very quickly.
I do mainly town riding and I don't feel the need to change the gearing, e.g. whack on a 14 tooth front sprocket, it's fairly easy through town but you have to use the clutch a bit. I've also had a 696 and S2R which were both fun and handled superbly but this feels different, there's something about a carbie Monster, it's an absolute blast, when you give it some you're very involved with the ride, you can feel what's going on, definitely no traction control!
I've honestly lost count of the number of times I have caught myself grinning like a madman when I drop the throttle and listen to the induction noise, it has Art cans at the moment, they sound ok but they look rubbish., so they're for an upgrade. Its just had, new belts, new clutch and the carbs cleaned and sorted at Rosso Corse.
So good all round at the moment, it will get used a lot and at 20 years old, I just hope it stays reliable!
Ps anybody know anyone who has some old pea shooter style termis for sale?
