Just traded my beloved Harley XR1200X (don't really know why) for a really nice 2012 evo with 1500 on the clock and about 2k worth of tasty mods e.g. Termi pipes, Datatool 4 alarm, Rizoma bars, riser and grips, Viper mirrors and Evotech tail tidy.

I've still got my 13yr old Harley Road-King for the long trips, so the Monster is for the twisty bits (I live 8 miles from the Cat & Fiddle). I doubt there is a better bike for that type of road!

I love all things Italian and already wear Dainese kit and drive an Alfa so maybe it wasn't such a crazy change after all.

Anyway, this looks like a great forum so I'm looking forward to learning from you all and hopefully contributing where possible. Even after 42 years riding I'm not a great mechanic but my cleaning and polishing skills are legendary!

Not as select as us 1100S owners lol. We are a rare breed now. You are evolved folk. Welcome along btw :D

Welcome to the forum.
Plenty of advice if you need it, but you should be fairly pain free with the new generation of Monsters.
Happy riding

Thanks to all for your warm welcome. A Stockport\Cheshire get together sounds good.

Actually the Monster is quite similar to my Harley XR (a much underrated bike). As expected it's much lighter, responsive and quicker with better brakes. Not as comfy though so I might have to invest in the 'touring' seat, although if I want to go touring I'll get the trusty old Road-King out!

Seems like the North West gang is growing recently. Time to make it stick and get some events organised fellas :)

Welcome. Don't dismiss the evo as not being for touring. I'm sure I'm not the only person to tour on their evo. With a few changes I have found my evo to be comfortable enough for riding for over 600 miles a day with 50+ litres of luggage.

With a few changes....

Secret ones, clearly. :D

Secret ones, clearly. :D
I have mentioned them a few times ;) but if you insist:

M1100 bar risers
Ducati touring seat
Rizoma Sport Line bar grips (I also chopped 9mm off each bar end)
Suspension set up by Rob at Pro Twins

Are the main ones for touring comfort for me :)

These ones also make riding better:

GPR Powercone exhaust can. I found that my right heel rubbed on the standard can.

The standard mirrors are useless and stick out too far, so in order to enable tight filtering and being able to identify PC Plod behind me I replaced them with FAR Viper 2 mirrors.

O2 sensor eliminator - to improve behaviour at low revs.

Obviously these changes are personal. They work for me, but maybe not for other people.

I'm sure that's true. I've done Spain on a 1200 Harley Sportster so there's no reason it's not possible on a Monster.

Welcome along too. Hope that you also don't become a member of the Flat-Plum club, there seem to be quite a few of us around! Regarding Termi's and neighbors, my surrounds always know when I'm going out but not when I'm coming home. As I can approach my house from up a hill I cut-and-coast way before they know I'm back. Grief free so far..
