Not sure I have enough of a beard for it but if they allow monsters I could be keen. What date is it? I must be being thick but I can't see it.

It does say modern classics, so by my interpretation a monster or 996 should be allowed as they are both modern and classic.

"Welcome to the 2014 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, an international event for Classics, café racers, bobbers, trackers, customs, modern classics, classic scooters & undefinable 2/3 wheeled machines"

I have my name down on registration under the group UKMOC friends. Have a choice of Monster , RD250 or the TT500 if I get an MOT. RD is favourite as old enough

There were 3 Monsters last year, maybe a couple more I missed. All older shaped versions. I asked Duch and he said they are fine. The idea is to keep the 'Gentlemens ride' style. If they start allowing faired bikes and closed helmets in it just becomes 'another' ride rather than something a bit different.

Of course a few people turned up last year on completely inappropriate bikes, also a few people turned up in bike gear or jeans and standard lids. No one was turned away but to be fair unless they were particularly dumb they either won't turn up again or will be suitably attired and on appropriate steeds as they stood out like a bacon sandwich at a Bah Mitzva. Imagine being the only person in fancy dress at a black tie event!

It was the most fun I had on a bike last year. Expect this one to be even bigger and more hilarious. If you don't want to dress up or can't come for any other reason you can still join in by meeting at the end or donating to the cause :)

Heres the UKMOC thread from last year. http://www.ukmonster.co.uk/monster/showthread.php?t=48017

Last year someone asked if a 916 was ok and it was deemed fine. This year apparently there is going to be 'new strict rules'! Guess we'll have to wait and see what they are....

Yeah, absolutely. And I agree just as I did last year. That doesn't stop me thinking the guy is confusing running one of his club events and running a fundraising event. That and the fact I think is a k*ob anyway.

It's a worldwide phenomenon and the code is the same whether you ride in Venezuela or Poland so I don't think you can blame him for making people dress up and ride a certain type of bike, no matter how much you might dislike him.

Dirty you probably have more of a legitimate bike to enter. He has not, if you look at the categories. But yet wants others to adhere to the rules. That is the bit that annoys me.

Dirty
25-08-2014, 07:36 PM
I dunno. I think his is more within the category than mine but either way, they are both in (or were last year) so what does it matter.

It's odd how this DGR thing seems to attract anti emotions every year. I don't get annoyed because I can't join in with any HOG charity rides because I don't own a shìt bike or a denim waist coat! :)

I'm pretty sure the £12k price tag is just a way of saying 'I don't want to sell it but if you are crazy enough.....'

BTW my bike is for sale at the moment, only £5k :)

Bit more info posted today. Meet point will be at Borough Market (which is also the finish point) at 9am, ride leaves around 10:30

Now for some reason this charity event tends to attract some negative posting which is a huge shame. Many charity rides have rules or dress codes. If you don't like them or don't have the correct machinery then simply don't attend. Or you could bitch about it. I think the London to Brighton car rally is out of order for not letting me join on my bike!! :)

Anyway, there are rules and those who don't want to follow them are politely asked not to attend.

From the FB page

I'm re-posting this pic just to remind everyone, especially newcomers. This event is not called The "Distinguished Gentleman's" Ride for nothing:

+ Dress dapper (please make a real effort, not token) ...Including an openface lid, please.

+ Ride a "classic style" bike - old or new, (use your loaf, ...you know deep down if your bike is wrong).

+ Behave like a gent/lady. A gentleman does not need to show off.
(AKA: if you ride like a ****er, you will be politely asked to leave. Seriously, I will personally ask you to go home.)

This event is for charity, but also for fun, and to create an event that gives biking some good PR for once. Great public spectacle, no trouble, no broken bones.

Only a couple more days! Worth making the effort if you can. Last year was some of the most fun I ever had on a bike. I'd go so far as to say slightly more fun than a tunnel run even! :)

0900 - 1030 Borough Market: Assemble, eat, drink.
1030 - GENTLEMAN'S BRIEFING
1030 - 1100 Mount-up and depart (it will take 30 mins to ride 600 bikes out)
1100 - 1300 Parade around London Town (secret route).
1300 - 1330 Ride back in and park up.
1330 - 1500 Borough Market: Re-assemble, eat, drink.

PLEASE DO - Arrive before 1015. Ride & Dress appropriately
PLEASE DON'T - Come late, try to join along the way, ride the wrong bike in the wrong apparel.

If you miss the ride, we'll see you when we get back to Borough Market.

God Speed - Gentleman's Ride 2014

Ladies and Gentlemen,

You are about to take part in the biggest custom and classic motorcycle event the world has ever seen. At this point we have raised over $1.1 (USD) Million Dollars. This event was founded on bringing together the classic and niche scenes. To be able to also raise money for a cause that supports all of our fellow riders, brothers, uncles, friends and all men globally is an incredable accomplishment. We are now hopeful and positive we will hit $1.5Million.

We will take this opportunity to thank all our volunteers who help to host, mark corners, cover first aid etc. Without volunteers - This event does not happen! Without fellow enthusiasts stepping up to take the responsibility of hosting this ride, once again it would not happen. So thank you.

We would like to extend a thank you to Triumph Motorcycles for their support. They are more than just our sponsors, they are supporters and participants in this ride. Without them we wouldn't of had the facilities and capacity to raise as much as we have and motorcycles to giveaway to help raise more funds. We also would like to thank Iron & Air, Deus, Davida Helmets, Dime City Cycles as well as every single Home Builder, Workshop, Blog and classic bike enthusiast. DGR is only a success because of the motivation and passion of all those who ride and support the idea of going back in time with classic dapper, classic values and classic styled bikes.

The Ride

This ride has risks. Please be aware riding bikes in general is not the safest form of transport. Riding in dapper increases the risk. That being said you are encouraged to wear safety gear under your dapper outfit. Kevlar skins are thin, great and allow you to ride with an extra level of Super Hero protection.

Due to the increased risks of these rides, we ensure this event remains niche specific and as small & managable as possible. By limiting the size of the event we effectively limit the risks. The ride is about theatre, therefore all rides will take place in populated city areas. This results in a short - low speed event. Key rides with plenty of people will have sweeper vehicles to help those who break down or based on the style of event and slow speed of it - overheat.

We do the best we can with what we have. We ask all riders to enjoy their DGR but we ask all riders to be careful when riding and leave enough space around them for fellow riders. All riders must follow all road rules and laws. Ride like a gentlefolk should and make it a positive experience for the people watching. Set good examples.

Please Note: All riders are riding under their own risk. If you do not feel comfortable riding or following the group, please take an alternative route to the regroup or end points.

- If there are any mishaps please remain with the rider until help arrives. Ensure your safety and the safety of others and do not let a fellow rider ride in shock.

- Please follow all road rules. These are public roads and all road rules must be followed.

- If for any reason the ride receives attention from authorities and is shut down, the plan is to head to the final destination.

For more safety information please click here. You are riding with fellow riders, lets look out for one another.

Find your Ride

Its always best to have the ride details on you in case you get lost on the day. Also some details 'may' have changed since you last checked them out. Please head to www.gentlemansride.com and click login. Once you log in simply click on 'THE RIDES' button and follow it through to your Country and City. (If you cant see details it means you are NOT logged in) You can click on the Print Page button and take a copy with you on the day.

All in all a fantastic day, well organised and for a great cause. Worldwide over $1m raised. Over 600 bikes this year! Spotted a 916, a couple of 888s and plenty of Monsters. Everyone was dressed up and the weather was mega kind. Crowds literally lined the streets on the way out and the ride was brilliant. Can't wait for next year!
