Hi all.

I believe the Tacho, dash etc on my M900 are non-standard parts, possibly Ducati Performace.

http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y481/Nashersimages/clocks_zpsfabbd1a8.jpg (http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/Nashersimages/media/clocks_zpsfabbd1a8.jpg.html)

What can anyone tell me about them?

I'm not sure I actually like them at the moment as the standard of the warning lights is shocking, all wonky and very cheap looking.

I actually like the look of the standard dash better, but would like to retain the Tacho, so am considering my options.
I've picked up a standard set of plastics, minus the warning lights unfortunately, and am thinking about adding the Tacho from above into a pod above them.

Yes that is one of the Ducati Performance variations that was available back when your bike was current (the bikes even came with an accessories catalogue).

Personally I think it would be a shame to butcher it for the tacho as they are getting a bit rare these days probably sue to their ridiculous price originally meaning they didn't actually sell that many.

Why not have a re-think and offer that one for sale and go for something one of the Scitsu options (they do one that is powered from the bike's battery now) and you'll have a choice of rev range options and even a white faced one if you want to keep it uniform. I have a self powered (rechargeable) one on my race bike and the quality is great and the back up some of the best.

Hi.

I do like the Scitsu tachos, I had one on my Z1000H, I wasn’t thinking of cutting the current one up, the tacho fits inside the housing in the same way as the speedo, so I was thinking of taking it out and using it in another housing.

Depending on the cost of a Scitsu replacement I would consider selling on the current one minus the speedo of course, but also need the warning light assembly, connectors and wiring from a std dash to fit in the bare plastics I have on the way.

You could probably fit a later dash with both the tacho and the speedo, like one of these

Just don't go mental and get one of these

Right I had a little look through my accessories catalogue that my '97 bike came with and the tacho options for that year didn't include the one you have. I presume it came out a little later but I am sure is Ducati Performance being made by CEV (the same as the speedo).

The options at the time were these:

http://i1372.photobucket.com/albums/ag329/fluke900/IMG_2281_zpsabfefb60.jpg (http://s1372.photobucket.com/user/fluke900/media/IMG_2281_zpsabfefb60.jpg.html)

The photos that Dirty posted are:
Top, the later clock set of the injected bikes which also form part of the immobiliser circuit. Centre, another DP item that I thought only came in chrome (perhaps those were painted?) like this:

And Bottom, nothing to do with Ducati but if you eat too many it may affect the bikes' performance!!

:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

The top clocks are not the immobiliser type. I think those are the slightly later ones with the digital display for mileage etc. The pic I posted is the type I have on my non imm'd non inj bike. They have an analogue readout for mileage. They were standard on later (2001) M600 pos M900s?

Ah yes, I stand corrected, used at that odd time for a very short period when the TGP take over was going on and they were sorting out the boxes of bits in Bologna.

I've been in touch with Scitsu as suggested by Flip and that might be an option for what I want.

As mentioned I have a set of std outer plastics on their way and would keep my Speedo.

I will need the rest of a std dash, including the warning light assembly and a possibly a wiring loom so I don't have to use the one in the dash that's on there at the moment.

I'd hope to sell the current dash and revcounter to recoup the cost of the conversion.

I wouldn't have thought you'd need a loom as the aftermarket tachos/surrounds were plug and play (I have the old style LED one on my bike).

It might be worth giving someone like Moto Rapido a call to see how much the warning light assembly is new, as sometimes new old stock stuff (even if it has to be ordered) isn't as bad as you think it might me.

Standard for you bike would be this

Think I have a set of warning lights still, will look when I get in this eve if you still need them

I'd appreciate you having a look.
If you find a set let me know how much you want for it.

It looks like I need the internal bit that holds the bulbs, the coloured lenses and the outer cover.
The parts I have already on their way are just the main dash front and back parts.

Thanks

Thanks all.

Now come on, be honest, is it just me that isn't completely sold on the Ducati performance dash etc that's come with my bike?

I really can't decide at the moment, so I'm going to build up a standard dash with a mock up of a Scitsu tacho to see which I like best before committing to the cost of a new Tacho.

I personally quite like your clocks. In fact I was in the process of buying them from Blah Blah at one point.

I don't think you can beat white clocks on a Duke, and I am not getting what you mean by the wonky idiot lights.

There where only three things on my first '98 Monster that I though could be improved a little bit.
One was the square plastic tea tray and mudguard, another was the grey plastic evaporation tanks on either side of the frame for the carb breathers and finally, I thought the idiot light panel was a bit too large and asymetric even though I didn't miss the rev counter particulaly.
In my opinion your nice carbon binnical with it's white clocks and neat cluster of lights is a vast improvement on the standard (Classic) set up...:mand:

Don't worry, I'm not completely mad.

If I go down the Scutsu route it will be a White faced one to match the Speedo.

The Wonky Idiot lights are a bit odd looking.
The Legends themselves appear to have been stuck down/Printed with no regard to getting them horizontal or lining up with each other, so are all at slightly different angles and it winds me up every time I look at them.

I'm kind of with you Nasher, though only partly. I don't like your current clocks but I do like the ones I have (pic I posted 1st). Not a lot of difference I know but a crucial difference in my mind.

That said I absolutely hate the half round, half square standard monstrosity they attached to it. Looks like something borrowed from a Fiat Uno parts bin! :)

I'm still not sure why you'd need a tachometer on a monster as it kind of detracts from the minimalism of the concept.
I quite like the idea that you take things off unless that means the bike doesn't function any more, and in that case you find the smallest lightest and least obtrusive one that does work. But that's for me: your bike does what you want it to.........

All

I'm almost certainly going to take the Ducati Performance dash/tacho off the M900 and sell it.

This one:
<a href="http://s1277.photobucket.com/user/Nashersimages/media/clocks_zpsfabbd1a8.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1277.photobucket.com/albums/y481/Nashersimages/clocks_zpsfabbd1a8.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo clocks_zpsfabbd1a8.jpg"/></a>

Some may think I'm mad, but I do prefer the standard set-up, and might not even add a Scitsu as having ridden the bike a lot now I understand that you probably don't need a tacho.

It would come with the additional wiring and the tacho, but obviously not the speedo.

From what's been discussed here it looks like it's quite a rare piece of kit, so does anyone have any idea what it's worth?

Thanks

Nasher.

Dirty

Worth less if you start removing bits. Better find a cheap standard one and just replace the whole lot.

Nasher

It will come complete except the speedo, which I believe it didn't come with in the beginning. You swap yours in from the std dash which is what I'll be doing in reverse.

Ok fair enough. I know if I was looking to buy one I'd want a complete one, even if they did originally come without a speedo.

Flicking through the net turned up these er ahem gorgeous items :)

I could be interested if the price is reasonable enough. I don't need the speedo as I'd rather keep mine as I rebuilt it years back.

Sorry spacemonkey, missed your reply.

My trouble is I don't know what it's worth.
I do know it's quite rare, but nobody on here has offered any sort of opinion, and as you can imagine I don't want to sell it for a lot less than it's worth. On the other hand I'm willing to let it go for a 'good' price on here once I have a ballpark to work to.

Try making me an offer, I'll make some phone calls tomorrow to see if I can get any clues as to it's value.

Ok that's cool. Let me have a look around too and try to establish it's value to me then we can start the negotiations. Don't worry, I'll keep my Chinese wife out of it. I mean, have you ever tried bartering with Chinese traders..? :D

So, it was obviously too good to be true.

The buyer, hayabusa_matt, apparently had issues with his PAYPAL account , but marked the auction as payment sent, just so Ebay could charge me the fees for selling it :banghead:
Having waited for the payment he's now decided he doesn't want it P:cens:K.

So I'm in the middle of claiming the fees back from ebay.
I did offer it to the other guy who was bidding on a 'second chance offer' but he's not replied.

Anyone want to make me a sensible offer before I put it back up?
